I need to replace my sunroof motor/slider and found a local parting out a 99 A4.

I know that the sunroof assembly will fit my 98 but is there anything special needed to install the headliner into my car?

    Re: Face-Lift Sunroof/Headliner in Pre Face-Lift

I have a 99.5 and I have older pillars in my car, including the visors, oh shit handles etc. If you do the rear pillar you need the whole thing, both the goofy L and the main pillar. I traded my middle pillars as well. Also the interior lights will have to be swapped. Basically you will need the whole setup. I have my original sunroof panel but the pull handle is older. I swapped all the gray crap out for the tan and then put suede on everything a peanut butter color.

On a side note if the car is a 99 and not a 99.5 you shouldn't have any issues considering your car is a 98.5

EDIT: My parts came from a 97
