    Common coolant leak???

I've got a pretty significant coolant leak, right now i'm adding some about every 1k miles. i tried to find the source but as you guys all know, there's not a whole lot to see under the hood. so my question is, before i take this thing into a shop, is there a common cooling system issue that i should look into first?

    Re: Common coolant leak???

The after-run pump is not a novice level job but, if you are careful and have a good supply of tools you can swap it or buy the OEM relocation kit.

The stock pump replacement is about $110. The relocation kit is about $160 with all the parts.

The relocation kit is part number 078 998 998.

The first thing you can do is remove the plastic motor covers and use a flashlight to look down in the recesses under the intake manifold. If you find pink/white crud down there, then you can be sure that it is the pump leaking.

If not, the rear coolant pipe is a known issue on some 2.7 cars and the coolant reservior can crack and leak too. 90% of the cars end up having a leaky after-run pump. (aka. auxillary pump)

How difficult or what process steps would it take to fix the rear coolant pipe leak?
