    clutchmaster stage 3 or 4?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So im getting a new clutch on my car and i have until monday to decide weather to get a stage 3 or 4 set up. I plan on doing forced induction power mods in the near future but not sure what clutch to go with. How much wheel HP can stage 3 clutches hold? How unstreetable is a stage 4?

Most stage 4 clutches will be virtually unstreetable. Also, I don't see an S4 ever making enough power and/or torque to require something so extreme. Most stage 3 clutches that I'm aware of will be good for up to around 600 lb/ft or torque which is also probably overkill.

i've driven on a clutchmasters stage 3 but it was on a R32 and the clutch feels like stock maybe a little tighter but it holds the power and launches of a 530whp VW so i say this would be a good buy for the S4.

Talk to southbend clutch. I've got a stage 3 clutch from them and it rocks.

Basically what they have you do is purchase the OEM clutch parts, send them to southbend, and then they change upgrade them...

Re: clutchmaster stage 3 or 4?

how much different can a stage 3 clutch be from a stage 4? If a stage 3 clutch has almost a stock feel on an R32... how much worse can a stage 4 be? i know any aftermarket clutch is going to suck in city driving but how much worse can a stage 4 be then a stage 3?

Re: clutchmaster stage 3 or 4?

i just talk to my friend who owns that r32 and he said it's actually a clutchmasters FX400 6 puck sprung clutch and that's the one i drove on and its very streetable in traffic, uphill, you name it. it feels just bit tighter than stock. It all depends on the pressure plate that a clutch is combined with. I've also driven on a exedy twin disc and that takes some time to get used to and it's a bit of a pain in the ass to live with daily. But also for comparison i've also driven a 240sx with RB25 and the car had a jgy 6 puck sprung and it felt like you are pushing a 200lb press with your toes. So it depends. hope this helps

i had talked to southbend and they told me that their product wouldn't be available until january. I have decided to go with the stage 3 clutch set up from clutchmaster and their 13 lb single mass flywheel. Ill let you all know how it turns up. If anyone was wondering our oem flywheel is 26.5 lbs and including the clutch the total weight is 42 lbs.

Its not up there yet since they are still waiting on pick up rings to be manufactured for the fly wheels. They said they are going to be done in early december at which point they are going to be available for sale. Since i am fortunate enough to be able to go without my car for several days at a time, my flywheel has been sent out to clutchmaster. They are going to pull the pick up ring off my oem flywheel and put it on their flywheel and shit it back out to me.
