not much I would think.. since if you're un-lucky or stupid enough to kill a piston or rod on a 2.7 you would be smart enough the next time to upgrade from stock internals.

WTF? I'm confused, your A4 knowledge obviously is of no help in this discussion. And where did he say he blew them, piss off.

you don't need any specific car knowledge to understand the general idea. If you break something once, why would you replace it with an equivilent part that's going to break again under the same circumstances? re-read the post.. I didn't say he blew them what I said was in third person, which translates into:
if someone breaks the stock rods/pistons, why would they go through the trouble to replace them with *more* stock rods/pistons. It's helpfull because it's common sense. Espically considering usualy, when you're breaking this sort of stuff you have the money to upgrade to more costly aftermarket rods/pistons.

I guess I could see if you tore them up and then did use the stock equipment again but de-tune the car, but that's still asking for trouble imo..

I don't know, I don't see anywhere where it's mentioned that they are broken.
My point is that *IF* you *do* break something like this, why would you replace it with the same thing that's going to break again?

It's okay though, apparently I just need to go back to STMFF and shut-up.

you can bend a valve from bad timing or overrev, or a piston from contact or detonation from bad tune or gas, that doesnt mean its not suitable for stock or stage 3 use

you see? that would be why you wont want to drop xxx on something you dont need

I think the question to ask is not who said what, but why is there someone with a A4 in the S4 forum telling us about our engines that he doesn't have?

I think the question is more y is everybody disagreeing and attacking him for a perfectly valid point? If you break a rod or a piston, y wouldn't you just replace your broken parts with new, better, stronger parts? The truth is most people will replace the broken rod or piston with an upgraded aftermarket one, thats why the stock parts aren't going to be worth much. Thats economics and has nothing to do with him owning or not owning an S4.

Understeer is when you hit the wall with the front of the car and oversteer is when you hit the wall with the rear of the car. Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall and torque is how far you take the wall with you.

Re: how much are stocks pistons/rods worth??

apparently what i said made no sense at all.

IF you blow up your motor it could be due to alot of factors, sometimes upgrading to stronger aftermarket internals are not needed since the stock oem ones are proven to hold 500whp

if you plan on running k04 stock internals are fine

    LOL. In small print:

Cosmetically this car has significant hail damage which I decided not to repair, so take advantage of this opportunity to get a great price on a great car. You can see the hail damage in the pictures.

I realize what you are saying, but if your not trying to build a 500+ HP monster I wouldn't say you should upgrade. Really depends what you are want to do with your car and why it blew.

Who gives a fuck if he has an S4 or not? You dont have to own an S4 to know cars. I'm pretty sure that there are guys on this forum that dont own an S4 and can teach all of us some good shit. I own both cars and go to both forums and dont talk shit to others if they come to this part of the forum or any other.

He is right they are not worth much because if someone blows up some shit they will look into an upgrade not to put stock internals so they can blow it up again. Juts my .02

P.S There is many cool peeps on the S4 forum but there is also some that are not.

Re: how much are stocks pistons/rods worth??

    lol there you go

i guess my idea is going over people's head

have you ever detonated? bend a valve, had bad gas?

so your saying if spun a bearing that my aftermarket pistons and rods would be better than the OEM setup? how much better? better enough where i wont need a rebuild?

or in that senario or alot of others there is no difference. i guess people dont understand this, thats the point im getting at, it depends on the situation, if your going a gt setup you may want to upgrade to after market, if your k04 why would you need to unless your cylinder walls are messed up? explain that

As a blind guess, I would think you could get $200-300, mabye 4 based on that for the whole set, just because really the only place they are going to sell in on a forum like this. I'd think you have a hard time selling something like that on ebay.
yeah, but you didn't have it when you first posed!
    okay, fair enough. :)

    LOL. In small print:
I almost didn't buy it because of that, but my chick friend does body work for a living and she told me that we can remove most of them easily and only really the door panels would need to acutaly be replaced. So really, the part that is 'LOL' is having to spend $800 on shipping it to my house since I don't care to drive it 1,500 miles from austin to virginia besides that.. it's a sport pacakge & bose equiped 01 S4 with under 100K on the odo for $8250.. the only thing else I was looking for was a 01.5 or 02 but I don't think that could have happened without at least 4-5K more. All the important maintiance has already been done too.. so I think I made out at least.

i agree. i think you guys just jumped to a concluion that he fucked his original parts and wants to replace them with original parts. even he of did i dont see an issue with that.
no one said that. He has a perfectly good set of rods/pistons and wanted to know how much they were worth, What I was trying to explain was that they most likely won't be worth much since most people that go through the trouble of breaking and then replacing something like that usualy end up not using stock rods or pistons and upgrade to aftermarket ones. His argument is that someone could use them due to detonation or valve troubles and it's a good point.. but that most likely dosen't change the fact that they're not going to fetch alot of dough.

Re: how much are stocks pistons/rods worth??

blmlozz how many motors have you built?

do you know the stock pistons are forged, SAME quality if not better than aftermarket design?

do you know s4 stock rods will hold stage 3 power almost indefinitely without some of the issues i listed and others i didnt, but would also destroy "stronger" aftermarket parts?

can you tell me why a piston to aftermarket would be an "upgrade"?
