    Hey Everyone,

I'm a very very proud owner of a 2002 1.8tqa...I absolutely love everything about the car except one thing...its ability to cost me money...I've had the car for 2 years now and I must have dumped around 5 grand into it and I think thats unacceptable...with that said i'm contemplating getting rid of it and getting into something more reliable...I guess what I want to ask is if you couldn't drive an audi what would be your (more reliable) alternative?

    any thoughts?

    Mike

What is your present car payment? IMHO, If it's paid for, then there is no reason to get rid of the car, especially considering the present economy...

I agree $5000 isn't much if its for normal things that don't include shelling out $1000 for a new heater core or $400 for windshield wiper linkages for example...I start to wonder...what else is going to go wrong...these are things I would expect to work for having only 80,000km

    Re: Its a sad time

If the car is paid off then stick with it...As for the $5k spent on the car, I've learned that as long as you keep up with regular maintenance, the Audi will last forever. It's an entry luxury sports saloon. You can't afford the car if you can't afford the maintenance.

IF you are dead set on getting rid of it, then get another German car. If you don't want a German car go with British, Italian, or American.

    I won't drive a Japanese car.

I have about a year of payments left...I always keep up with regular maintenance and make sure the car is babied...thats why it bothers me so much so see all these other problems come out of the blue

    Re: Its a sad time

1 year of payments is not that bad...

I saw that you have an 02' B6, the first year of production for this chassis. Unfortunately, the 1st year of any car is bound to have issues, even traditionally reliable cars like toyotas, hondas, etc. My neighbor had the 1st year of the toyota yaris, a small econo car. That thing had more reliability issues than I thought possible in such a basic, no frills car. He ended up selling it after the H20 pump went at less than 10K miles. I had the same issues w/ my old car, a 98' ford contour SVT - tons of first year teething issue.

Keep up on the maintenance and hopefully the bugs will work themselves out...

Sorry about your troubles, but the question is irrelevant for me, because my Audis have allways been very reliable and durable cars. I can't think of any other car brand that is more reliable or durable on a consistant basis in comparison.

    Re: Its a sad time

I guess next time I should just make sure not to buy the first model year...the thing that attracted me to the 2002 over say a 2004 wasn't so much cost but rather the different options...rear heated seats and nice aluminum trim for example...

    Re: Its a sad time

I have a 2002 B6 and the only major thing i have done that cost me money is my Torque Converter went out and it was like $2000 to fix and since then just usual maintance and like 02 Sensor and coil packs. other then that Its been very good to me. Maybe because i have the 3.slow and not the 1.8.

Good luck OP with either route you go!

the only think I go to the dealership for is scheduled maintenance...everything I've mentioned above (heater core, linkages, etc) has been done at a private shop...

    Re: Its a sad time

My audi has never shit the bricks. I bought my car at the wrong mileage (87k). Little did I know I had to dump money into the timing belt and clutch soon after.

Other than that, my car has never left me stranded, unlike other cars I have had. Runs stonger than when i bought it.

What kind of problems did you have with it? You could have a lemon
