    Boost Gauge Help!!!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So i recently got my boost gauge installed with the help of some people and on the T fitting tubing on one of my hoses ripped. So i cut some of the excess tubing from the awe boost gauge that they awe supplied me with and zip tied that back on, everything seems to be in working order, im just a little confused as to how much boost, stock is running?

I have a tip and when i floor the car the boost gauge stays around 10, and then when it shifts drops to about 6-8 and then goes back up around 10 again. Is that normal?

    Re: Boost Gauge Help!!!

i understand that but like when i get into the higher rpm's the boost level drops to about 6-8 and when the car shifts it does that also. Is that normal?

    Re: Boost Gauge Help!!!

Mine is manual but it holds 8-9 PSI perfectly steady to redline (stock).

Not sure if the tapering near redline is normal on Tips or not though...possibly programmed that way? Not sure..

As for the tapering during shifts, i'd guess that should be normal as you might lose a bit of boost during the shift.

    Re: Boost Gauge Help!!!

yea man, if ur sig is correct, GIAC should be hitting anywhere from 16-20 psi depending on ur GIAC file and if u have an MBC in parallel w/ it. My MBC is set to spike around 19 psi, sometimes I see 20, occassiionally i'll see 18 psi

Do you have stock DV's?? check em. Is ur car a 2000?? Check the f-hose. Other hoses aren't as common as these to so you then will have to pressure test if both your DV's and f-hose are okay

    hope this helps

    Re: Boost Gauge Help!!!

thanks for the info, and i do have stock dv's and they seem to be working. Also what is the F-hose, and i do have the giac x chip but its on the stock setting.

My question is though is when i floor the car, when it gets to higher rpm's the boost drops like around the redline and when it shifts it also drops to about 6-8psi. i also have a tip not manual. Is this normal?

Don't worry about an f-hose, you've got a tip that doesn't have one.

    Re: Boost Gauge Help!!!

so i did some more runs today and actually my boost looks like its at 9-10 and then around the redline before it shifts drops a little maybe to about 7-8 and then when it shifts it drops to about 6-8 and then shoots back up to around 9-10.

For stock setting does this sound normal?

    Re: Boost Gauge Help!!!

yes sir... the reason your boost drops slightly (tapers off) in the higher RPMs is because the higher in the RPM range you are you are demanding more fuel and to maintain a safe A/F ratio the car has to taper some boost off so that it doesn't lean the car out up top... On stock it may not be a big deal but say if you were in chipped mode and spiked 18 and held that, as the injector duty cycle raises with the RPMs you would be dangerously close to maxing out the injectors and leaning your motor. so yes, unless you have a MBC in standalone (you'll still bleed boost but not as much) it is 100% normal. my stage 3 software is programmed to spike to 24, taper to 22.
