has anyone does this before? i want to take them off to paint them (looking for the brushed aluminum look of the RS6) but i dont know how to get them off. I removed the 2 screws on the bottom and have it alitlte elbow grease but nothing. I dont want to break anything so didnt want to just have at it and rip it off. If anyones done this before, any pointers would be helpful.

    Thanks,

    Nick

    Re: removing mirrors

if i remember how the dude took offf my mirrors to put my rs6 ones on, you need to pry off the glass. its clipped in and should pop out. there should be more screws in there. cant remember if the motor needs to be removed aswell to get it completely off

    Re: removing mirrors

No, there should be one screw (tiny) on the backing plate for the motor that screws to the housing. Then they lift up. Keep an you on the semi clips at the bottom. Its pretty straight forward if you take a good look and you dont need much pressure to pop them off. Again, you just pull straight up.

Although this link below is not 100 percent accurate look at the picture 8 down and the hole in the top Left is the where the screw you need to remove is located.

He took the motor off but I did this last week and did not.

    Re: removing mirrors

First: Get in your car and adjust your mirror glass so it's facing way in towards the car, this will allow you to get your fingers underneath it on the outside edge. Then, pry up the glass carefully using just your hands. You can pull pretty hard without having to worry about breaking anything, just try to make sure there's fairly even pressure on the glass as you pry. It takes a bit to get the glass to pop out of the clips in back. Disconnect the wires from the back of the glass and set inside the mirror housing.

Second: Remove the two screws from the bottom of the mirror cap(one if it's a stubby).

Third: Look at the inner of the mirror(it's easier to see if you get inside the car and roll down the window for a stubby), and you will notice 3-4 screws that hold the mirror cap to the mirror glass power base. Undo those and put them somewhere you won't lose them.

Fourth: Get back out of the car and face the mirror at a 90 degree from your car. The inner part of the mirror cap that sits flush with the rest of the mirror has to come up first. It will basically come up and over, until the hole in the bottom of the mirror cap can slide out over the mirror base.

    Hope that helps.
