    Question what's this "wideband" jargan?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I see it referenced in more in-depth tuning threads and there is really no explanation I can find.

Specifically, someone was trying to adjust A/F via lemmiwinks, and another poster strongly recommended he use a "wideband" for measuring or tuning or something of that sort.

    I'd appreciate an explanation!

    thanks
calm the fuck down. it's all relative.

Not flow, but the amount of oxygen in the exh. To much and the motor is running lean, too little and the eng. is running rich. Optimum for our cars is about 12.5:1 @ WOT.

its an auxiliary oxygen sensor that gives extremely accurate air fuel ratios instead of lambda or "narrow band" values

    WOW 19.0:1

"This option is especially important in new fuel control concepts such as lean-burn engines, where the engine’s fuel control changes at cruising speeds from 14.7:1 to a much leaner 19.0:1 or even higher."

I think some Civics used to have that lean burn thing, like a 1994. Read that it is a popular car among hypermilers or whatever they are called.

Anywhere between $65-$80 for the VW 5 wire wide band 02 sensor. The ones from the dealer might be slightly longer then the ones that are sold buy aftermarket companies.

Well the one from the dealer has a longer cable. Nearly all of the aftermarket wide band units use a Bosch wide band 02 sensor which sells for $79.
