    Extended warranty and mods......

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I'm about to turn the dreaded 50k on my car and am debating getting an extended warranty. I have a CVT with a chip and just don't trust the thing. If I get the warranty and get a bigger turbo etc and the tranny craps out on me....will I be covered? How does this usually work?

    Thanks!

umm i dont think the warranty will cover BT, so just save urself the money you'd be spending on the warranty and upgrade your tranny

it's cvt kinda hard to do. What about injectors and an intercooler only?

well any aftermarket warranty will use any excuse not to cover something...even so much as using a different size tire will void the entire warranty...the audi warranty will have to prove that whatever you changed as far as performance caused the failure of a part

    Re: Extended warranty and mods......

I have had such bad luck w/ aftermarket extended warranty companies...

If you do get one, just go w/ one approved by Audi. If you mod, IMHO, choose easily reversible ones as warranty companies do everything in their power to deny claims.

I had the Audi CPO. After putting on a Carbonia CAI, my MAF went bad. CPO would not cover because of the aftermarket part. $485.00 later, I had a brand new MAF!!

because the mod you did directly connects to the maf, they do not have to cover it, on the other hand, if something else like an o2 sensor went bad...they could not deny you..

    Re: Extended warranty and mods......

It's a tricky thing with the extended warranty and mods. When I purchased the Audi CPO extended warranty, they had to do an inspection of the car. Luckily, it was before all the mods and the dealership serviced the car up until that point.

I usually try to revert to stock if possible before heading to a mod friendly dealership to get repairs done. My personal experience, I had 3 coolant leaks and one vacuum hose leak, all covered under warranty. The fuel pump went 4 weeks before the recall, but it was covered anyways. For me, since the car was leased, the extended warranty was a no brainer.

However, if you plan to extensively mod the car and engine, then as others suggested, take that money and put it into your car.

    Re: Extended warranty and mods......

i'm thinking about the same thing.
i'm looking at the audi extended and for my car it's 2 year, 24000mi for $2100 or 3 year 36000 mi for $2600.
i'll probably get a new car within the 2 years so that's the one i'm looking at.
they said pretty much everything is covered except normal wear items. i asked about timing belt. belts are not covered, but they said it would if it goes out before the usual time.
i really think i'm gonna do it.

i guess what i'm asking is. i have no mods so is this a no brainer that i get this warranty?
i have to decide by tomorrow.
