Got In a Car accident (Pics inside)

Waiting at an intersection, light turns green and i wait 4 seconds before i go and a big truck tried to pull a fast one and tried to turn before i accelerate forward and he did.
And behind him was a jeep coming fast who was going straight instead of turning like the truck and keep in mind the light is red for them.
the jeep was back behind the intersection but kept going.
i slowly accelerate and then i see the jeep running the red light.
so i slam on the brakes and swerve and the guy in the jeep sees me and turns into my car instead of away.
and this is the out come








oh, and guess what?
i get a citation and im at fault.
The cop told me according to FL law i have to wait for the car to clear a red light before i can accelerate.

Take him to court and get an aftermarket or USP bumper out of it. Did the guy in the Jeep agree with you?

No. If you fight it and there isn't anyone to dispute what you say, they throw the case out. But you still need to go after his insurance company to get money for the repair. What you can do, if you have the funds is repair it on you own, which has to be done anyway, then after court go to his insurance company. Not showing up is like an admintance of guilt, in the court's eyes. I believe then he'll recieve the citation and you seek damages. Call a laywer and ask for sure. You can try to get reimbursed for the cost of that also. Greg (400HPA4) could help you with the cost issue.

that's new york for you... i almost got killed today on 3rd ave by a cement truck that decided to turn right 3 lanes over when he had the red and i had the green...

Fortunately the damage looks to be superficial. You will need a replacement front bumper cover, lower spoiler possibly the headlight washers and maybe grills too.

All in all I would imagine it could get fixed for about $1200.00 including paint.

Huh? If your in the intersection when the light turns red your already breaking the law, that's the reason there is a yellow light, if your vehicle can't clear the intersection while the light is yellow, you just ran an intersection. The truck was wrong also. If your light is green and the other party's light is red, it's their fault regardless.

Take them to court for sure. Hope they dont show up, you will win right away. For insurance, once you win the court, depending on your insurance company, they might not raise it as much as you think. But, like many insurance companies, even if you are sitting at home and someone hits your car in the street, your insurance will go higher.

Am only glad that your airbags did not deploy.

I recommend you consult a traffic lawyer regarding the citation/at fault you received . Most lawyers offer a no or low cost initial consultation. You can post a request for referrals on the regional AW forum for your area, asking for names of traffic attorneys that people can recommend.

Lets not look at the fact the the light was red for a second.

If someone is making a turn in front of you and they have the right of way, don't you have the responsibility to make sure they complete their turn before you take off? Yes you do. It's a similar situation here. Granted the your light was green when you took off but you still have the responsibility to make sure it's clear before you go. If someone has control of an intersection whether legally or illegally they have the right to the intersection. You can't just go running off into an intersection just b/c your light is green. And if you could, then why did you admittedly wait 4 seconds after your light turned green to go? Why not go as soon as it turned green? B/C you know that you need to check to make sure things are clear before you go.

By your logic, if there is a car parked in an intersection with no one in it, your light turns green and you hit the car, it is the fault of the parked car in the intersection b/c you automatically have the right of way b/c your light is green.

Let me know if I'm not understanding what happened as it did. I happen to do this stuff for a living
