    5400k/6000k is the same thing

Get an Osram or Phillips D1S-HC bulb.

If you are thinking of doing a conversion kit in your halogen headlights I'd suggest you skip that, save up and buy a set of OEM xenon headlights instead.

You will get better light output, better ballasts and you won't blind the oncoming traffic with the light scatter since you will have the proper projector lens.

6000k HID bulbs in the mains and the foglights.

above your post.... just save up and get a set of ecodes. He's right that the xenon's won't look that good with the projector lens.

I went Retro Solutions 55w, 5000K. I was using the Range Rover Sport HID's color as a reference and I think it's pretty close. Even w/5K, you're losing a bit of light, more so in poor weather. I wouldn't go higher myself but if you want a more blue hue, go 6K but no higher than that. OEM is always a better solution thou. No debate there.

I'm very happy with the Retro Solutions. Here's my install...

Re: 35W or 55W HID, color pref?

There isn't any. Both are pure white, since the camera isn't capable of capturing any detail with such intensity, and around the two blobs of white, there is yellow/purple/greenish glare which is a function of the lens elements.

DO NOT put xenons in a stock halogen housing. They look like crap. Don't waste your money, don't bother, forget about it, go home. If you're going to mod your car do it right, not cheap.

Seriously, just keep an eye on the classifieds forum. OEM Xenon housings pop up there all the time.

I don't know how you can see a difference in that picture.

Here is one where you can see the difference in colour temperatures

6000k on the left, 5000k on the right

after installing the kit from RetroSolutions in my fogs (55w 3000k) i highly recommend these guys. They answer all your e-mails and provided me quick tech support (within hours of e-mailing them) when i had a question and the kit was perfectly plug & play. No extra splicing or anything. Plus they have a good warrenty and shipped my order the same day i placed it.

Re: 35W or 55W HID, color pref?

Ok I took pics with my camera phone but they didn't turn out at all. After having a vvmw 35watt kit 6000k and a ddm 55 watt kit 5000k my conclusion is go with the ddm 55watt 6000k bulb. The ddm kit is a f*ck ton brighter than the vvme kit, just go with the higher color bulb because the 5000k is the same yellow color from the halogens.

ok so i've got to have xenon headlamps in my car. If i turn the key so that just electricity is flowing and i turn my lights on then start the car with them already on i can see my auto leveling take place. The beam goes way down and then back up again. Also my lights when i'm driving have a really sick cutoff line, and at the cutoff i can see a line of purple. And my gf drove in front of me the other day and said my lights were a really cool shade of purple, but the light i see in front of me is pure white (except for the fogs which are more yellowish but not 3000k yellow, probably the standard 4300k)

That was a Blesk kit I got from a fellow AZ'er

Worked great as it was compatible with the electrical system in the car.
