changed gas and car threw three codes

Alright, on my way to the Adam's Detail clinic last week, i was running low on gas and decided to pull into Shell and toss in $20. The car has never had any gas other than Chevron Super for the entire time that I have owned it (purchased new). The next morning I go and start the car and the check engine light comes on. This morning, I check the codes with my OBD2 reader and I got codes: 300, 302 and 304.

I am wondering if I can just clear the codes and go on with my life or are these codes stored in some sort of black box that only the dealer can erase like the 02 sensors on my Nissan.

Could be just one bad tank of gas, the shelf life for gasoline is 3 months and by the time in gets to the station it’s already a month old. Some gasoline stations are low volume and don’t replace their tanks as often resulting in slightly lower quality gas.

Put your normal gas in, erase the codes, and everything should be fine, if codes come back then we have a problem.

I put nothing but Shell in mine and have not had any problems out of the S4. I have however gotten some bad results on my old GTI with the same gas I was using all the time.

As far as codes go, if it shows as intermittent I would erase it and see if it comes back. That's the only way you'll know if something is really going bad or was it just a hiccup, so to speak. And codes should be permanently erased. At least with VAG-Com they are.

Audi's don't have a "black box" either...Nissan is notorious for using those damn EDRs. The GT-R is probably the most recent example of how those things are used by the dealer...they know everything you've done with the car and it'll void the warranty if you make a mistake. But you don't have to worry about that in the Audis (at least up to the 09 model year, don't know about those)
