    brake question...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
ok so i purchased my s4 in may and before it hit the sales lot the dealer replaced the front rotors and pads however did not change the rear (this was about 6,000 miles ago) well now it has come time for me to do the rears so i pm'd Adam@spp for a quote on a set of his "infamous" rotors yet only need the rears. he quoted me a price of $400 for a set of slotted rears using oem blanks. well i cant justify $400 on just a set of rear rotors so i start looking elsewhere and ecs also uses oem blanks and a set of thier slotted rears are only $200. great so i pumped that i can get a set for half of that quote...

now my first question is Adam "highly recommended" that i use all 4 of his rotors as opposed to just the rears. any insight to this? will changing the rears only impeade my braking performance?

also i would like to get different pads than oem cause they dust so bad any recommendations? mintex? hawk? others?

lastly if i change my front pads just for something less dusty will i have a problem leaving the almost new oem rotors on while doing so?

    Re: brake question...

I bought Adams and didn't like them - PM me and I'll tell you why. Went with GSG - MUCH BETTER. The dealer probably didn't replace the rears because the fronts is where MOST of the braking takes place and they wear quicker - and they probably didn't want to spend the $$. If you go with Adam's or another brand, it's going to look strange because you'll have slotted/dimpled in back and not in the front. If you're going to do this, do it right and replace both.

As for pads, unless they have corrected it ( I have pointed this out many times on this forum btw) do not get Hawks for this car. They do not make the correct pad in terms of the spring clips. You will not be able to re-install the OEM or any after market clip. Also, I am using the GSG rotors with OEM Pagid pads and I have less dust.

well first i am going to just get slotted not drilled or dimpled and i dont see a reason to replace the front rotors if they are practically new maybe come spring/summer they will need replacing and ill go slotted up front then.

i assume by gsg you mean ghost squad garage? well thats what came up when i googled gsg anyway i couldnt find anything listed for a b6 s4 in the brake category.

i really dont want to use oem pads so i see hawk is out is there any else i should look into?

    Re: brake question...

I bought slotted Rotora rear B6 S4 rotors from Jordan (Element256) for about the same cost as ECS, and they're probably pretty comparable, maybe a little better. Great guy to deal with though. Not sure why Adam was charging so much...

I use Carbotech Bobcats for the rears. They make a little noise every once in a while but almost zero dust and they bite well.
