Was there a warranty recall on...

Sorry for the noob question, I did some googling and maybe it was the partying last night as I'm a lil slow today

Was there a warranty recall on 2005 A4 1.8t fuel pumps? This morning on the way to work I started hearing a whine. I'm almost certain it's the pump. Sounds like it's coming from the passenger rear. Sucks cuz I was gonna hit up the coolwater cruise on Sunday

Re: Was there a warranty recall on...

Not to necrobump but the car's due to come out the shop today (been too busy with work sending my ass to Italy and whatnot to do it myself). It wasn't just the fuelpump but the fuel filter as well. No signs of fuel filter till about the day I brought her in to the shop (constant hum, with the pump gurgling sound being also heard from time to time).

About $500 in damage for both, ouch. And least expected but c'est la vie. Probably would have saved myself $100 if I did it myself but since it's short notice and I didn't have time I took the hit.

So fellas, if you hear ANY humming noise from the back, get it taken care of ASAP. My filter was bad and pump was crap, it only sped up the pumps life faster. And for the record, only 2002 and 2003 models had the warranty. 2004 and 2005 (like mine) don't and only means to get refunded if the pump does go on the warranty recall list is if you take your car to get it fixed at the dealer ONLY. blah!

Yeah I had a hookup to get the pump for about $250 but I had to wait a few days. Figure the non hookup on both pump and filter would net me around 350-400, rest is labor it wasn't too bad. Dealer quoted me for both to be almost $1200, ouch.

Can anyone confirm there was a warranty offered on the MY2002 1.8tq pump? I called my dealer and there was no campaign on my VIN for the pump, but if there is some sort of reimbursement for the part that would be great. I searched and could not find any TSB or warranty info on AZ, so I don't know if there is one, and if so, if it expired, etc... my car has 96,000 miles.

    My pump is PN 8E0906087P

    Thanks!
    Jon

this never made sense to me . . . they fail all the time in our cars, yet the only recall was for 2003. This has always felt fishy to me.

Re: Was there a warranty recall on...

i didn't even know about the recall and i have an '03. when i went to get my cat replaced, they told me and i said sure why not. mine was at 70k and it hadn't gone yet, so i guess i lucked out.

haha, they tried to convince me to pay $800 to get the brakes replaced. i almost laughed at the rep.

Usually it's a good idea to change out the filter first before doing the pump. In many cases, this will remedy the "whine", although as you stated in your case sometimes you just need to change both.

I'm planinng on getting a new fuel pump in about 3 months (112k on the clock!).

i believe it's VIN dependent. i have an 03 and called to see if i can bring it in for the recall. lady told me that mine didn't qualify. wtf?

had it changed when i got my 80k service, tb/wp, and K04 all done.

Re: Was there a warranty recall on...

Check your filter first. The filter will make a whine sound when its on it needs to be replaced. Mine was so loud it gave me a headache. Its cheaper to replace the filter then the entire fuel pump.

Open the drivers door and look at the label located at the base of the B pillar between the front and rear door.
