    B7 2.0T brakes fit B6 1.8T?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I currently have a 2004 A4 1.8T running 312x25mm brakes up front. I would like to know if the front brakes from a 2005 B7 2.0T brakes would fit my car? I believe those are 320x30mm with a bigger caliper.

Does anyone know the the offset from the B7 2.0T...ET35 or ET45?

    Thanks

312x25's are off the 3.0. Stock 1.8's use 288x25's. But the 320x30 set will also fit.

They fit but I would opt for the B6 S4 brakes, 345mm rotors and the caliper clears more wheels

    Re: B7 2.0T brakes fit B6 1.8T?

    Hi Jeff

I was aware the 3.0 uses the 312x25 but as I brought my A4 2nd hand does that mean the previous owner upgraded them? Did Audi install the 312x25 brakes on 04 cars onwards?

Currently only running the OE 16" rims but plan to upgrade to 18" later. It seems the B7 A4 calipers are the same as the B6 S4. I'm surprised the same caliper has clearance for discs size which are like 25mm bigger!?

    What difference does the B6 1.8T caliper have vs B7 A4 2.0T?

    Copied from a4mod website:

    B6A4 1.8t- Same Caliper as B6A4 3.0
    Front Rotor: 288x25
    Rear Rotor: 245x10 or 255x12

    B6A4 3.0- Same Caliper as B6A4 1.8t
    Front Rotor: 312x25
    Rear Rotor: 255x12

    B6S4- Same Caliper as B7A4 & B7S4
    Front Rotor: 345x30
    Rear Rotor: 300x22

    B7A4- Same Caliper as B6S4 & B7S4
    Front Rotor: 320x30
    Rear Rotor: 288x12

    Thanks

    Re: B7 2.0T brakes fit B6 1.8T?

do you have a 1.8T? if so the 3.0 312mm rotors are an upgrade...

The B7 brakes swap right over. Calipers are the same as B7 S4... you just need to get different carriers and rotors if u want the b6/b7 s4 setup

Thanks guys for the replies. Same caliper for several models but just with different carriers.

    Re: B7 2.0T brakes fit B6 1.8T?

Same caliper, different carrier as someone said. But the different between a B6S4/B7A4 and a B5A4/B6 A4 (1.8T) is substantial.

On the B6 platform, Audi used 288x25's all the way up to before the release of the B7 (except for the 3.0 which got 312's, and S4 that got the 345's). HOWEVER, I just realized that you are from HK? If I remember in the HK market, the 1.8T's are considered the "higher" and more luxurious models, whereas the lowest model is the 2.0 NA. Basically most of the models in Asia are the same... but as an American Audi owner limited to our trims and models here, these have always tripped me out:

    In Taipei:

    In Shanghai:

I believe the 1.8T engine is also available for the early 2005-06 B7 models as well.

As a result, I really can't tell you if your 312mm brakes came stock or they were upgraded.

    Re: B7 2.0T brakes fit B6 1.8T?

Jeff...you know your stuff! Are you from Taiwan?

Yes, 1.8T was available in the early B7 before the 2.0T was introduced in HK. I believe the 312x25mm brakes on my car came standard as nothing was modified.

617bones....I am amazed at how BIG the B7 front caliper is, will that clear OE 16" rims? The B6 caliper looks very small, let me take a picture of my setup and post up later.

With the same caliper shared from the B6S4 and B7S4 but with different carriers. Different brake pads must be installed otherwise how on earth does it sweep the larger disc area?

    Thanks

Yeah man, they are HUUUGE compared to the old brakes!
I would really be surprised if a 16" wheels clears them.
Even my oem 17"s are really really close!

    Re: B7 2.0T brakes fit B6 1.8T?

    I've just done this conversion - 2003 B6 A4 1.8T (Canadian spec) to B7 A4 front brakes - 288mm to 320mm.

I obtained all my parts from a local dealer (with a small discount) - you might need a little more than just the calipers / carriers / rotors - I ended up needing spring clips, hard lines (caliper mounted), line mounting brackets and a couple of other items that I hadn't figured into the cost of the conversion.

However, the 320mm rotors fill the space behind my stock 17" rims quite nicely, and once bedded in the Hawk HPS pads combined with slotted rotors make a nice improvement over the stock sized items

I went with the B7 A4 upgrade over the B5 S4 as the B5 S4 calipers are larger than the B7 ones (in to avoid clearance issue with aftermarket rims - this summer), and the B6 / B7 S4 rotors at 345mm would drive 18" rims (using the 17"s for winter). Plus, the cost of 345mm rotors was $200 over the price of the 320mm's..

    Hope this helps

I'm gonna measure up the brakes at lunch as I dont believe my calipers are as small as those shown in the picture.

Back in 1hr with size and a picture!

    Re: B7 2.0T brakes fit B6 1.8T?

I bought a set of front calipers from a B6 S4 and I've been looking to get new rotors. Everything that I have seen out there is $300 a pair at least. I might end up going with the OEM rotors from Genuineaudivwparts.com for like $70 a piece. I really wanted to get slotted rotors but it is too much money, especially that I paid ~$140 for the complete front caliper set.

    Re: B7 2.0T brakes fit B6 1.8T?

Back....couldnt take any pictures as carpark was too dark and no flash on my mobile.

I quickly measured the front caliper on my 2004 B6 1.8T (non S line) and its 8" top to bottom. Marked it out in your picture for easy reference. Can you confirm if the OE B6 caliper is actually 8" or I am already using a larger version possibly the B7 one?

If my B6 is really just 8" then that B7 caliper must be a MONSTER at 10"-11" judging by the size.

    Thanks

the b6 caliper in the picture has been disassembled. compare it to the interior (the part that is basically the same shape as b6) size and you will see that they are very similar. Not sure what the rest is called, but is part of the brake caliper.

Oh stupid me. I see the support bracket has been removed so its quite similar in size.

Can anyone tell me are different brake pads used when the same caliper is used for bigger discs?

No I am not from Taiwan, but I have family and friends there as well as in HK and other parts of Asia... so I've been around.

I may be in HK around December/January, and would love to check out your ride.

My ride is bog standard at the moment apart from the rear RS4 bar. I have yet to find 18", bigger brakes, remap, install ICE and such. Got a N95 and snub mount sitting in the boot but not much time later to sort it out due to work.

Back in Dec....are you a strong man? Wanna help me bring back a sub or two? :D

Also required are pads / rotors - your choice.

For what it's worth, I'm using rotors bought from Adam@SPP's group buy (B5 S4 fronts, slotted and dimpled, with stock B6 A4 rears, also slotted and dimpled - $350 shipped) and Hawk HPS pads all round.

So you mean even if I got a set of B7 A4 calipers, carriers with discs I still need to buy brake lines and brackets to install properly?

Did you ordered S4 brake splash shields for your A4 or did you kept the factory ones?

s4 splash shields, A4 ones are smaller than the rotor, but it didn't rub before i changed them out. rear s4 guards don't bolt on.

oh and the B7 calipers look bigger in the pic, thats because the B6 caliper has no carrier, they are about the same size

    Oh...got it now.

So those who installed the 345x30mm discs, how much was the braking improved by and what pads do you recommend?

    Cheers

    Hi

Not had the time to do it yet but it will not doubt increase braking preformance quite a bit esp if your OE size is 288mm vs 312mm I think.
