Question re: rear view mirror?

Anyone know how to remove the rear view mirror base, already removed the mirror.

Also without removing the sticky part. I read on vortex that it twists counter clockwise , but i tried and am afraid of trying to hard and cracking my windshield.

I couldn't find anything about removing the plate on the windshield.

All i could find was this one with for the auto dimming mirror:

you really cant, unless you remove windshield or maybe try dental floss and heating it up to remove...

is it possible to put the auto dimming mirror on if you purchase it? Or is there additional wiring that needs to be there for it to work?

You need to wire it up.

That's what i was thinking until i came upon this

I'm just painting it because the gray stands out too much. I already did the mirror and it looks much better IMO. Now I need the base.
