    Anyone have problems with HIDs?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
For anyone who has installed a full HID conversion kit in their car, who has had problems with it draining too much power such that the alternator cannot keep up (thus, killing the battery over a prolonged drive with HIDs on) ?

I ask this question continuing off my original problem.... (http://www.audizine.com/forum/showthread.php?t=241743)

    Thanks

HIDs use less power than regular bulbs

Re: Anyone have problems with HIDs?

I have an aftermarket HID kit and my car is fine. I wired up my hids so that they were plug and play with the oem headlight socket.

Don't know if this helps, but I doubt its the hids since they consume less power. Perhaps you need a new alternator?

HID's consume less power, produce less heat, produce more light, should probably be standard on every car.

May be installed incorrectly and you have a drain somewhere? Mine are (and have been)fine.

Re: Anyone have problems with HIDs?

i did the supreme power plug and play kit and they work great... on a couple of start ups though, every friggin light came on my dash - ebrake, esc, seatbelt. turned off power and waited a few moment and restarted and all is good. i am wondering if i need a new battery or alternator.
mods - not enough for me and way too many in my wife's opinion

Re: Anyone have problems with HIDs?

You have some sort of electrical problem. Possible alternator going bad if you are going dead after driving a while. The battery is pretty much mainly used for starting the car after that there should be minimal drain on the battery. Or whomever wired your HIDs put them on a constant.

Re: Anyone have problems with HIDs?

Yea, I highly doubt it's due to the HIDs. I actually usually run my lights during the day just in case [due to ridiculous LA drivers] and have seen no issues.

Isn't there a means in which to test if an alternator is dying?

Re: Anyone have problems with HIDs?

as everyone has stated, HIDs only draw 35 - 55watts while bulbs go from 55 - 80+. the only real power draw is when they first startup... but thats what the ballast/igniters are for.
