A friend of mine has a 2004, A6 with about 50-60K miles on it (and factory turbo engine I think?). Anyway, she has an oil leak at the oil pan, took it to the dealer and they said $1,000 to fix. Took it to another dealer and they said $600 but that they go bad all the time and she'd be back next year for the same thing. WTF? I'm surprised a dealer service person would say that. What's the story on this? Thanks.

FYI, a passat 2.8 oilpan will fit on a 2.7T. it will be cheaper to buy a used passat 2.8 pan and bolt it to the 2.7. i cracked my oil pan, and my buddy fitted one from the 2.8 up. and ya i dont think an oil pan his considered a wear and tear item?

Is it leaking at the gasket or does it have a hole in it? If it's the gasket, all you have to do is replace it and it def won't cost $1,000
