I had pretty old all season tires last winter, i didnt get stuck anywhere, but braking was pretty bad. Now i have all season ContiExtremeContact. You should be fine with yours. And btw, we had a LOT snowfalls over 5+ inches last winter.

    Re: Continentals for the winter?

same tires came on my car (I guess no surprise there) and they were adequate. Two winters ago during a big snow storm I had to drive to Indy on 74 and saw 8 or 9 cars off the road. my car felt good to about 50 mph, but after that I started to slide a little. Long story short, you'll be fine, just be reasonable. I certainly wouldn't buy them though given a choice. Lots of better options (the ExtremeContacts being one of them).

Maybe i got used to... But they seem to be a bit softer then my previous all seasons. On "hard" turns they might squeeze a lot :) Maybe that was a break in, cause i dont hear anything now

yeah I read the sidewall wasn't anything amazing, but.. for the money they performed amazingly in almost every category. Can't be worse than my p6's

    Re: Continentals for the winter?

the conti sports are a summer only tire, that means more than snow traction. It means that braking on slick cold surfaces is limited, that the tire compound wont work well below 45 degrees.

I had them on my car for the first half of winter when i bought it. They were reasonable in febuary -march but after it warmed up they felt much better.

I would look for a cheap snow tire package, i found craigs list had a couple sets of tire and wheels for cheap. I bought a set of 16's with snow for $250. keep your eyes open, and what fun is quattro when you are afraid of messing up your nice rims and possibly your car.

I am a big advocate of snow tires, just because i dont wear flip flops in snow storms or boots to the beach.

Yes. And they're the best. I've been running them since the've been out going back to my 540. You get excellent dry performance and near winter tire like wet/snow. I highly recommend.

Sumitomo's HTR +... Ran those last year and was upset i had trouble getting the car to slide out. Great winter tire, and all around tire. No road noise

    Re: Continentals for the winter?

I had Conti-Sports on my previous car and they sucked in the snow.....mind you my other car didn't have Quattro. Give yourself some peace of mind and get some winter tires, even some cheaper ones should provide you with much better traction than the Conti-Sports IMO.

The Contisport contact 2 is a max performance summer tire. It is not designed for use in snow or conditions below 32 deg. Good luck and make sure you insurance is paid up before you drive those tires in the snow.

i have the extreme contacts and i hate them actually.. the sidewall is so soft, they bark like hell on even slight corners and they always feel like they need an alignment. My steering wheel doesnt have that dead center feel that it used to. They're a lot more comfortable ride than the p6s though. conti pro contacts are alot better but they cost more...

    Re: Continentals for the winter?

and btw to the OP, you need to change to all season or winter tires. you shouldnt be using your conti sports when it's cold. they are summer tires.

Conti makes great snow tires too, TS810
I have previous version of this http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....1=yes&place=10
they are not winter performance but they are great for wet, slush, snow, ice covered roads.
