    A4 1.6 B6 Awd Mpg

    Hi everyone!

I own a 2003 A4 1.8 AWD and I'm getting really bad MPG. I have done tune up, Oil change check tire PSI. I also drove the car very light and I'm getting about 15/16 MPG on the city but great MPG on the freeway. I have 65k miles on the car. The only thing I have done is put a cold air intake but even before that I wasn't getting good MPG.

I heard that O2 sensor gets lazy at times and it doesn't really give you a check engine light but if you replace it your MPG should pickup.

If you have a 1.8T AWD what is your MPG? City and Highway. I want to change the Front O2 Sensor but wanted to know what the car should get for MPG.

    Thanks

I had a similiar issue. My MPG wasn't as bad but I did a seafoam treatment, replaced spark plugs and did a throttle body alignment and it's gotten a little better. I plan on replacing the fuel filter but I don't think that will help MPG at all. I also got a vag-com cable so I could read the o2 sensor and I acctually got 2 so if you want a cable for cheap let me know and I can even point you in the right direction to diagnose your o2 sensors before you drop $120 per sensor.

I have an '03 1.8T 5-spd quattro with APR Stage 1. According to the computer, I get 22-24 in 99% city driving. Before the chip it was slightly lower.

I did change the fuel filter just because I had the noise coming from the fuel pump and it was really dirty.

I have a Cheap VAG com with software 409.1

How would I diagnose the 02 sensor?

I avg 33MPG on the highway at 75MPH and I'm APR3+. You should check the afore mentioned O2 sensors, MAF, and plugs.

Brand New NGK spark plugs. If it was the MAF it would give you a check engine light too rich or too lean.

I get about 28 on the freeway but street driving really sucks.

So I did Diagnostic via the VAG COM and here is what I found

17522 - Oxygen (Lambda) Sensor: B1 S2: Internal Resistance too High
    P1114 - 008 - Implausible Signal - Intermittent
    Readiness: 0000 0000

    Is the oxygen sensor bad?

I'm not sure if anyone else got a letter from Audi long time ago maybe like 8 months or so that Audi extended the warranty on a part that was part of the emissions for 10 years or 100K miles. I have to find the letter but it said if the CEL turns on the dash board. What does CEL mean? I dont have a check engine light or a CEL but I'm thinking its the O2 Sensor based on my Error codes.

I would guess that "B1 S2" means Bank 1 Sensor 2. And that would point to the after cat O2 sensor which is just mainly there to monitor the cat.

But of course if that code is tripped the computer might be running a little rich so the cat will not get too hot and melt.

I cleared the error code and it hasn't come back. I might change the first o2 sensor since my MPG really sucks 15mpg.

When you guys drive your car hard does the area near the turbo get really hot that is like really hot and turns the color to like red?

The turbo does turn read, but it should cool off pretty quick afterwards. If its glowing like a light bulb then I would say somethings up.
