Where is the interior (cabin) air temperature sensor?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
My heater is driving me insane. I has two settings:

Lo - blows ambient outside temp air into the car
64 and higher - hot as the sun, regardless of fan speed

I've been reading about this in the archives this morning and I know its a somewhat common problem. Im going to try swapping out the climate control unit to see if it helps. I'd like to change the interior air temp sensor as well, but am unsure where its located. Is in in the CC module behind the little slits? Or by the sunroof switches?

Anybody know? I cant go on driving with the windows cracked b/c my car can only blow the hottest of hot air when it's set to 64 degrees. This must be fixed!

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

I thought it was in the head unit itself, I could be wrong though.

That sounds unbearable, sorry to hear.

The climate control unit sounds $$$. Maybe it's worth it to just have the dealer diagnose it for you first before you go buy a climate control unit

Thanks for the offer but I know a number of local people with B6's so Im sure I'll find someone who's willing to lend me their CC unit. I just need to buy some radio keys first.

Re: Where is the interior (cabin) air temperature sensor?

IIRC it is located near or around the cabin air intake. Does your temperature readout normal? IF its 80 outside does it read 80?

By the cabin air intake? Do you mean the cabin filter? That doenst make any sense. There must be one somewhere inside the cabin in the console or headliner somewhere to measure the temp being felt by the occupants.

Yes my outside ambient temperature sensor works perfectly.

Re: Where is the interior (cabin) air temperature sensor?

As mentioned already, it's inside the control head unit. Air is pulled into the sensor by a little fan, at the small grill area near the bottom edge of the face plate.

Re: Where is the interior (cabin) air temperature sensor?

Are you referring to the three horizontal slots just above the fan speed screen?

I just want to be sure I'm on the same page, as you said it's on the bottom but these are on the top of the unit. Thanks for the help! It sounds like swapping the CC unit will test both the unit and the sensor at once.

You can also try resetting the A/C adaptations by running basic setting in block 001. Wait for the displayed servo positions to all be zero. then close the controller and turn off the key for awhile, then reevaluate the problem. You have checked for DTCs right?

Re: Where is the interior (cabin) air temperature sensor?

I havent run the VAG on my car recently but now that that I have thought about it there were some HVAC codes from April. I saved them in an email:

00604 - Potentiometer Positioning Motor for Air Flow Flap (G113)
30-10 - Open or Short to Plus - Intermittent
    01592 - Air Quality Sensor (G238)
30-00 - Open or Short to Plus

I'll rescan tomorrow. Thanks for the help.

Re: Where is the interior (cabin) air temperature sensor?

Run basic settings too, it may help, and possibly avoid replacing the controller. BTW, the air quality sensor is different from the temp sensor FYI. (deleted on '03s up. )

Re: Where is the interior (cabin) air temperature sensor?

    Update:

So this was happening intermittently but wasn't horrible enough to really put energy into fixing the problem....

My coolant temperature sensor failed and I kept getting a CEL... once I replaced this, my heat has been functioning SUPERBLY. It's quite amazing, I have temperature modulation.

I have no idea why this happened, perhaps its just coincidence, but before I forget I wanted to post it for the archives. The temp sensor was ~$26 and took about 20 minutes to replace, it's on the rear coolant flange.
