    The Newest Pro-ject...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Picked up this little blue guy here this evening for $1000. Next Mo, I'm buying about 90% of the parts needed to K swap it (K24 longblock with K20 head, RSX-S Trans, Shift linkage, fuel lines, clutch flywheel, pressure plate, and some other misc) for $1500. Another $1500 or so on top of that and she should be running. My goal is to have this car done as my Christmas present to myself.

Has 5 lug conversion, AP1 (S2000) Steering wheel, Spare set of wheels, extra set of black housing headlights, carbon hood, and the Drags on it are all BRAND NEW, haven't been more than pushed around the yard. I'd call it a good score.

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

The car itself? Other than it doesnt have an engine/trans in it, no. Its in great shape, and the guy gave me easily $1500 in parts with it.

I get paid again the 5th, but have bills, and then on the 20th of next month I'm picking up all the Kswap shit for it. It'll take a few days to source the parts I'll still need (Karcepts shifter box, Mounts), but almost everything is there.

The Chassis itself only has 5850 miles on it. It was wrecked in PA and they apparently dont allow salvaged titled vehicles on the road. Minor front end damage, and I've got pics of before/after it was repaired. Thousands of dollars in reciepts. The guy paid 1300 to have it shipped to Wyoming where I picked it up, on top of the price of the car, so yeah, I'll never have buyers remorse.

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

    That'd be the plan.

And I already have the parts sitting waiting for me. The guy who sold me this car has almost everything to do the swap sitting in his garage. He decided to build a trans am, and his parents wanted this car and the shit for it out of the garage.

Them harping on his ass + needing money = Killer deal for me.

My goal is to have this car done for under 5 Grand initially (Including repainting it/fixing dings and dents). I've got a buddy who runs a body shop, so all it will cost me is paint. Of course there will be more parts to come. I'm trying to source the pair of Brides I know are sitting in some guys garage in billings, and a bunch of other parts. I want to auto-x the car too, so suspension is going to be a big priority. I''m going to wait for paint until it is running and I trust the car enough to drive. The paint isn't horrible, but I am a perfectionist when it comes to my projects so a respray is definitely in the works.

Lots of parts to be ordered... I have been bit by the Honda bug again.

And a side note: From everything I can find online anyways, this will be the first K-Swap built in Montana. My bro was attempting it 2 years ago, but moved back to seattle and sold everything because he didn't want to build a car just so it could get stolen.

Fuckin' Mexicans. I can say that, I'm black.

Good luck with the build. Putting an engine in a Honda is cake as I'm sure you know. This swap should be fun.

yeah, I can't honestly count how many honda swaps I've done. Never done a K before, but I don't imagine it a whole hell of a lot harder than multi-point B Series into a dpfi car.

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

in the end he'll have lost about an easy 6 grand in selling everything to me for $2500. I still have to come up with mounts, shifter box, and some misc shit. Since I am getting the main goods so cheap, I may throw down on some engine goodies, but might also wait. The engine actually only has 5 miles on it too. It was in a new car, on the lot, and the car got smoked by someone and totalled. You could eat off the ****** its so clean. The K20 Head is disassembled, so I might as well build it while putting it back together. I may just go ahead and build the bottom end too, since the engine is out and its not horribly complex. You should see the longblock. The Z2 head has the exhaust manifold built into it, and its a trip. With an adapter plate it would be easy to bolt a turbo directly to it. The car may or may not get the squeeze on her. I'm going to have to decide that after I drive it N/A. Well, shit. I'm gonna go do some work on it....

sweet, it'll be fun, be aware the little stuff adds up quick. don't forget about the a2 oil pump and k-pro. traction will not be your friend with the k24 bottom end. put an rbc on it right away it makes a pretty nice difference.

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

Definietly. An RBC, K-Pro, and A2 oil pump are going to be mandatory (obviously). Yeah, it should be a torquey bastard, and thats going to be half the fun. I am probably going to put an LSD in the trans, especially since I plan to Auto-X it every now and then. I've decided I'm not going to skimp on any aspect of the build, and go with only the best in aftermarket parts from the beginning. I'm going to build the car I've always dreamed of, a well rounded vehicle that I can enjoy driving, and take pride in knowing I built from the ground up. I know its going to add up quick, but my main goal is to just get it running by X-mas.

Only 2 of my friends know of the build, and my girlfriend, and we are trying to keep it low key until its done. My girlfriend is being amazingly supportive in it... I asked her if she wanted to go to dinner last night and her response was "Why don't we eat at home, its more money for you to put into your car". She's almost too good to be true.

I'm going hunting tomorrow, but if I dont have to go to work Monday I am going to start Stripping the engine bay of paint and misc stuff, and get it ready to shave. I've got hundreds of hours of work ahead of me, and I am looking forward to every minute of it.

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

your gonna love it, the 97 ex coupe i built runs 13.5 at 103 on street tires, makes 229whp and gets 33 mpg, all on a bone stock internally A2 motor
What head do you have, A2, Z1, R? Also for the shifter box I would look into hybrid racing's new one, same with their new fuel rail, esp. if your gonna do a wire tuck, the feed line comes up through the intake manifold, soo nice.

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

I was lazy yesterday, and still tired from hiking all day, and shooting, gutting, and dragging 2 deer out (I really suggest you don't break into anything I own, the last 7 deer I've shot have been one shot one kill).

Today my buddy and I cleared out my garage (took us 4 hours) and I pushed the car from the back yard around the block into the garage. I bought a bunch of sanding and scotch brite disks, and I am going to start stripping the engine bay tomorrow, and removing the front end of the car. I'm so excited to get started on this project. I am planning on wire tucking it, and shaving the bay so thanks for the info . Like I said, I am going to go balls-out on this one.

I am going to be running a K24Z2 bottom end (5 miles on it), with a K20A2 head. There is stipulation on whether there will be enough valve to piston clearance so I am going to clay it once I get the engine and head in the garage. I am hoping I don't have to replace pistons/rods, but if I do, it means I am gonna go really nuts, and just build a turb'd setup from the get go. I am sure I will be more than happy with the power it makes NA, but who doesn't want to go faster?

It's going to be a lot of man hours, but I get paid enough and have enough days off (I have no set schedule, I am on call 24/7) that I am going to be working on the car every free minute I get.

Pretty cool project dude. I like seeing these kinds of builds, especially from someone that has some good Euro taste.

    Good luck.

Don't forget to advance the intake cam all the way when claying, but if I remember it will be fine with the stock a2 cams. best resource for anything k-series is k20a.org, they will be able to give you a definite answer.

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

Been a member there for a while! The only thing is I can't find any definite information on the K24Z2 block as far as if the K20A2 head is going to work. From what people who are more experienced in building these have been saying it should work fine, but clay it to check.

I just got done assembling the bedroom set for the G/F and now I have to clean the spare car parts out of the bedroom, then I'm gonna head out to the garage to start pulling the front end of the car off and get ready to sand 'er down.

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

Well, just got back from hunting, and today had a lot of time to think long and hard, lol. (We didn't see any deer during shooting hours).

I am thinking of strapping an Eaton M90 to it. They're relatively cheap, and assuming my friend who is an engineer could TIG a manifold for it, I know we could make it work. I wanted an all stock engine to begin with, but I figure if I am putting a K in it, I might as well go balls to the wall. Maybe I wont, but I want to, lol.

And on a side note, I am picking up the Engine, Trans, K20 Head, harness, injectors, shift cables, and some other misc stuff by the end of this week (whatever days I don't have to work).

    Re: The Newest Pro-ject...

removed front bumper, some wiring, and fuse box... started sanding down engine bay today. I can't take the brake lines off, because I'm planning on moving (hopefully within the next couple weeks), and have to have brakes to load it on the trailer. I'm gonna shave and tuck it, and route the brake lines inside the passenger compartment for a cleaner look. I would have kept working, but my 90 Grinder took a shit on me, and I'm gonna go pick up a new one tomorrow.
