    need some help please

So today since I had to change the o-ring seal on my fuel injector because it was leaking fuel I also decided to tackle the changing of my coolant flange since Im leaking there also. However in the process of removing some other pieces to get to the flange since it is a p.i.t.a to get to I was removing the oil check valve thing ( the big black looking valve that is directly behind the manifold and above the coolant flange ) and it was already broken at the base so it just popped off . How important is this piece and can I get away with not running one. It appears that if I have to replace it I have to replace the tube itself that runs under the intake manifold. What exactly does this piece valve do. Also any advice that might make my job easier on changing this coolant flange is greatly appreciated, as of right now I'm following the DIY write up. Thanks..

No you do not have to run one. I have been running without one for a while. It is a one way valve that catches oil vapor leaving the crankcase. Those trace amounts of oil are ok to shoot back through the turbo but some ppl don't like doing that. I had mine plumbed off that hose back into the intake with a piece of hose I bought. If you don't want that oil going back into the intake, you will either have to replace that valve or vent it to atmosphere if you're cool with removing the vacuum/secondary air system. In that case u would also have to plug the open whole in the TIP.

Yea its your crankcase ventilation valve and is part of your PCV system to control blow back gases. However, unless you're going to get rid of your whole PCV system, i wouldn't run without it. It won't really hurt much but your engine bay will look like shit after a while. Replace it, it doesn't cost much.

Thanks for the help guys . Going to go get some hose to make a simple fix for now. Another quick question though, is there any other place near the back of the engine that could leak coolant. Its hard to see back where the coolant flange is and it is a pita to do just to find out its not my problem, is there any other areas I should look at. All the posts Ive read so far indicate this is problably my issue since the flange and seal are a common problem. Thanks.

Most likely your culprit is rear coolant flange. You may also have a leak at the back of the coolant reservour.
