    mechanic wont install hood pins

I got CF boser hood shipped to some performance shop here in SC, and mechanic calls me and tells me that he WONT install pins because hood is too thin and if he does drill holes it may crack in few month. Does anybody have or had anything like that happend to them? He is very well known guy here and i agreed with him, but my hood vibrate on the sides at highway speeds
Should i get pins installed anyways?

Well, since you already installed it, I doubt you can return, it, so I guess installing the hood pins would be your only option then. If it does start to crack around the pins, you can just paint your hood and leave a window to see the CF like Euroaleksey.

Re: mechanic wont install hood pins

In general you should not "drill" carbon fiber. If you have the option it is better to grind through with an abrasive bit and ideally reinforce the area. Drilling rarely cuts through the carbon cleanly and introduces small fissures and areas of weakness that eventually spread. Use a dremel and an abrasive bit.
I've seen lots of folks glue a washer on the back side to help prevent splitting.

I'd personally rather have (ugly) hood pins, than a hood I was afraid would shift and fly off my car at freeway speeds.

I say, definetly install hood pins.

The hood can very well, slam into the windshield. I have seen it happen

Re: mechanic wont install hood pins

I agree with grinding rather than drilling. Hood pins on regular hoods typically came with stainless steel or aluminum plates to protect against the cotter pin and cable. Does this one have them? Once you abrade through the hood, coat the edge of the hole with hobby grade CA glue, which you can get at a hobby store. This is a trick from RC car parts. It seals the fibers from fraying.

You put green masking tape on both sides of the carbon fiber, and use a dremel with a router bit to make a hole in CF.
