No hp gains with aftermarket intake on 1.8t unless BT (required). Stay with the stock intake and save your money.

I've got a filter laying around in my garage that you can have for dirt cheap. Its really nice....it's a blitz oil-free filter with a velocity stack adapter to straighten out airflow before it hits the MAF. Also has a 3" inlet......cost me around $90 when I bought it...I don't need it anymore....shoot me a PM if ur interested

Heres my old intake setup.....very easy to make

IMO, unless you are going to make a setup like his (pictured above), there is no point really. Any regular cone filter (even one from Autozone) will work.

I dont believe that an aftermarket is "required" for a BT, id love to have my stock airbox look back and Im sure I could do it if I could just get a different TIP

It is that the MAF sizing enlarges with the files and the TIP does not have a circumferance that would house the larger MAF (usually at least 3"). If there was a stock airbox design that is suited for the larger MAFs, then that would be ideal for people looking to stay with the OEM look. But yes, I was told that the stock airbox is very effecient and should not (or does not) need to be upgraded unless necessary.

My stock airbox is modified to fit a 3"MAF (VR6/tt225). Its a snug fit, but works great. Anything larger than 3" and it would be a bit harder, but I think still achievable with enough cutting and fabrication.
