    Re: What mufflers?

I just got thru evaluating all this -- had looked to Magnaflow 5x7 polished ovals (18" long) and oval tips on 2.5" custom. But that begs question of resonators (say 4" round and 14" or 18" long?). Which in turn brings us to how loud? How well fit-up? With latter in mind, then looked at more expensive APR (nice) and ended up with used (very low miles) Millteks that are very nicely done (thru valence on on my 2000 C5) and which are deep but quiet. But I'm a geezer.

    Re: What mufflers?

i got vibrant mufflers. they should be going on this weekend as my car should be getting patched up. here is the link

    clicky

i picked up 2 for 350 Canadian brand new. some b5 s4 owners run vibrant and love em, so i gave em a shot. they look amazing in person, way way better then the pics and they are quality. they come in different inlets and outlets, from diameter to single/dual outlets

Straight pipe is the way to go. Ditch the mufflers and hold on to your seat! BTW, I am an old geezer and LOVE having no mufflers. Increased horsepower and everyone knows you are coming and gets out of your way!

When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

I have 2 little boys that ride in my car nearly every day, so I'd like to keep it toned down a little. If I need loud, I have my SRT-4.

    Re: What mufflers?

PV - one of the issues with custom is, of course, don't know how it sounds ahead of time unless you match somebody else's set-up. On other hand, significantly less expensive than APR or Milltek, both of which are "quiet" but deeper sound than stock (can be made louder by removing resonators later on if deemed too quiet). I changed my mind on the various possibilities a whole bunch of times until I found Milltek used available and said enough! Got it installed and took week long road trip, didn't look back. My kids are grown, but I don't want "loud" and definitely don't want "drone" while cruising.

    Re: What mufflers?

I'm going to have AGP fab it up after they finish my intercoolers.
I think I'll try to get in contact with some local S4 owners to listen to various exhausts.

    Re: What mufflers?

good idea, but there are a lot more exhaust systems available for S4s than A6 2.7s, so you may be disappointed and not find custom M-flow (or similar) set-ups on them. That's part of frustration for A6-2.7 owners: not enough of us to warrant aftermarket supply of stuff we want and S4 owners are far more likely to mod, with range of complete systems easily available.

    Re: What mufflers?

Understood, but you'll be pressed to find model system on S4s I suspect. Also, same engine but not thereafter.

I have a 16 month old little girl and one on the way. The increased noise in the cabin of not having mufflers works awesome as white noise and I have to make an effort for her to not fall asleep every time we go out to the grocery store! Not to mention the increased vibration is just like the vibration effect on her swing! :)
