I don't even remember where 3hrs came from. Perhaps that was an average that we came up with. Who knows.

Why did you change put the pump?

Was it simply necessary at this point?

He was hitting 100% IDC in his last logs with the 630's.

Curious to see if the new pump lowers that. Make sure you log 002 David.

Does yours hum mostly when you just start the car in the morning or does it hum at all times?

I can hear mine humming pretty clear when I start the car in the morning and i am too scared to be stranded somewhere.

Its maybe on its way out. There's a current recall for the fuel pump, i git mine swapped out for free about a year ago.

    Re: Fuel pump is in.

Not a recall on all years though. Think my recall said it was only for the 2003, I have my pump that I just took out that is like brand new (6 months old). And usually the humming is due to the pump having to work hard because the fuel filter is dirty/clogged up, so the most likely fix is to change the fuel pump.

Nothing, it is the pump or the filter and most likely it is the filter. You are supposed to change your fuel filter once a year which nearly nobody does.

    Re: Fuel pump is in.

No one ever changes their filters because it is stated to be a 'lifetime' filter, much like our coolant and our 115k timing belts. I love my car and have a lot of faith in Audi/VW design/engineering but sometimes I feel they let their marketing and logistical guys get away from them to motivate more interest in the cars.

My fuel pump is humming away at 84k, off and on. It was dead silent with no issues what so ever but being I had less faith in the filter I replaced it anyways. After replacing it my car was humming and the fuel filter was vibrating violently at a high frequency. It went away after about 8 minutes of idle running. I can only assume it was air trapped in the filter/lines. The frustrating and troublesome part is that the humming has returned again over two weeks later. It is much more tame now but still quite a bit louder than normal. I'm worried an expensive fuel pump is in my future instead of the FMIC I had my eye on.

I'm not sure where you heard that it's a lifetime filter. It states in the service manual that the fuel filter should be changed every 40,000 miles.

I have a stock fuel pump that was just replaced under the recall in my car about 5 months ago and my car sat for over a month when I did the engine rebuild so it only has like 4 months of use on it. I just took it out when I replaced it with the performance pump I put in for my new setup.

If you end up wanting to get one I will sell it to you for $125

^^ I might be interested to buy if it turns out that my pump is damaged again.

But I would like to ask if I should stay with the OEM pump or go for the performance pump. Would I be gaining anything?

im currently running APR KO4 only.

You need the performance pump if you plan on running 400+ horsepower at the wheels (500 crank hp) whic is over double the power you are making with your K04.

Every parts outlet, including the goons at the parts counter for the dealer state it is a 'lifetime' filter. Regardless mine was changed at 40k as their service area was more astute than the parts department. I changed it myself at 84k which is where I sit now with my pump hum. I'm hoping that it is just air in the lines as it would be pretty odd to have a fuel pump all of a sudden fail when changing filters. I'm also always careful, I never run the tank out of fuel, filling up at 1/4 of a tank as the fuel in the tank acts as a coolant for the pump.

I may be interested, I'm not worrying about it right at the moment though. My car is apart for the valve cover gasket, timing belt and vacuum simplification. :) Thanks for the offer, tis a good deal.

I know, mine is indeed an 03; although the dealer said there are no recalls out for my vehicle so I may be at the end of the run, outside of the 'affected vehicles'. :(

I have never heard of an item that acts as a 'filter' being 'lifetime'. That just does not make common sense.

Only way it would be lifetime is if it was either self cleaning or you were able to clean it like a K&N air filter. Since it is neither of those it would be impossible for it to be good for a lifetime.

Well unless they mean the lifetime of the engine because once the filter is done the engine blows.

I'm not arguing that it is lifetime.... I'm merely stating that a common belief(read: misunderstanding) is that and that several outlets document it as such. I am a firm believer in changing your fuel filter every 30-40,000 miles. Hell, in my old FD RX-7 it was done every 20,000.

even still it might actually be worth the upgrade to avoid getting the crappy (i.e. - often defective) OEM pump. that way if you ever upgrade past the GTRS (you'll want more eventually lol) you'll already be set.

I may consider it if the price difference is not too much.
How much is OEM pump and performance pump (what brand and model)?

    thank you

I think the OEM pump is around $250. The Bosch 040 pump is about $400.

well two OEM's is already more than one 040... and one has a history of burning out.

AND in the event that you want to upgrade, the stocker would have been a waste of money.... but maybe that's just me.

kinda like honda guys upgrading to koyo radiators... a full aluminum one won't pop like the stockers - even though it costs twice as much. but you only have to install it once, it works better, and it won't break...

    again, maybe that's just me.

David, how do you like the car now with the fuel pump?

I am going to get that pump as well.

Mike, is it possible that you can start a GB?

Car is no different with the pump, it is a safety measure since when you get up around 400whp the stock one may not keep up. Not sure why you would need this pump.
