'02 B6 A4 1.8TQ vs 04 Golf Mk Gti (DSG)

Apologies to try & make comparison and it's probably not fair at all but I have to decide very soon and it's a toss between the 2.

So was wondering anyone have a chance to drive both and make sort of a comparison. Any opinions will be appreciated.

By the way the A4 is modded while the Gti is stock.

A4 is modded with:
1. MTM Stage 3 with K04
2. 18" rims
3. MTM clutch
4. Stoptech front BBK
5. K&N air filter
6. Broquet
7. sway bars
8. ICE
etc

those are some nice (think $) mods on the b6.

BBK = $2k

Stage 3 w/ K04 = $2k at least im guessing

rims probably $2k

I'd say if the A4 is clean and appears to be well maintained and not obviously beat on then that would be my suggestion. I am slightly weary of buying a modded car but not totally against it either. Alot of things come into play such as mileage, obvious abuse VS. Normal wear and tear etc...If the A4 is clean and you feel confident I would definately go with that. Good Luck

What is the mileage on the two cars? Seems to me the GTI might have some warranty left on it as well.

All things being equal, the A4 will probably be quicker until you chip the GTI and then the power to weight ratio will come into play. Nice mods on the A4 - any receipts for the work? Be prepared to shell out some $ for maintenance on the A4 if you buy it (timing belt/H20 pump, coilpacks, etc).

Ther A4 looks clean & not abused.

The A4 has about 65,000 miles on it, while the Gti has about 25,000 miles on it. Unfortunately there's no warranty left on the gti. The A4 has some receipts but not all, and the majoe stuff like the timing belt, H2O pump, coilpacks had not been changed.

The only other major concern besides the reliability is the drive, I'm not sure which car has a better enjoyment when driven? Gti's DNA is designed up as a "sports car" while the A4's DNA designed up as a "comfort saloon". Hope I'm making some sense and not offended anyone.

Oh sorry a typo it's a 05 MkV Gti with DSG.

As much as I love the b6 a4 and this is a audi forum and all, My next car will prob be a a Mk5 GTI so DO IT!

^^same here, i love my A4 but my next car is going to be an MKV GTI. if the A4 is at 65K miles you'll need to do the timing belt job within another 10K miles and a few other maintenance things so plan on having some cash on hand.

honestly i'd jump on the GTI with only 25K miles instead of an '02 modded Audi without even thinking too much about it. much less to worry about with the newer car and the GTI with DSG is going to be a ton of fun as well...just get it chipped and enjoy a ridiculous amount of torque!
