You can get it registered but you have to go through hoops, I believe you have to get it registered as a kit car (read stand in line on january first and be the first to the DMV desk to register, 1k or so cars a year get registered in california.. It fills up in hours)

    Truly amazing cars..

I was looking at some R32 and R33 GTRs, and those were actually in a decent price range.. already imported, rb26dett, mods... But R34s are when things got expensive ($70k+ for a good one). If I had the money, HELL yes I'd do it. damn man North scottsdale has some hotter cars than i thought

    Re: R34 GTR

I saw a skyline in sac a couple days ago, older model, not sure what style. But the R34 is honest to god the first car I officially fell in love with and wish to own and drive one day, and am willing to pay crazy price for once I save the money. Then it was an Corvette Z06 after the R34, and finally it keeps changing in what I would like to own.

But R34 will be number one in my list forever. I've lost faith in the new GTR's.

Out of curiousity, why? I definitely don't like the way the new one looks as much as the R34, but it certainly moves. One of our clients came by with his new GT-R yesterday and performance-wise, it's better in every way versus the previous model, and having sat in both, the interior is much nicer in the new one (although oddly inconsistent -- you'll have a leather wrapped panel right next to a cheap plasticky one).

    Re: R34 GTR

I guess saying I've lost faith would be the incorrect terminology to describe what I feel about the new GTR's. I like 'em, but I finally saw one in person and it sort of sent an odd feeling of disappointment. I'm sure they perform better, but I guess what I meant is that the exclusivity of the R34 not being available in the US is what really made me want it more (want what we can't have, right?) But I know that if I had my choice between the two and had them both built and customized to what I want in the cars, I would take the R34 over the new GTR's.

Plus, a lot of nissans car's are starting to look the same (350Z, Altima Coupe, Maxima Coupe, GTR) it's like they took the coupe basis of how they build their car and shape them slightly different from each other based on what is specific to each model. (extended rear lights for the 350Z, or the Dual single taillights.)

So not lost faith, just disappointed, yet still happy with it, at the same time.

    Re: R34 GTR

there are some skyline importers out here. mind you, they arent cheap. rbmotoring in socal has tons of them. getting them to comply with US emmission laws can get you around the "kit car" insurance dillemma. or you can get it cheaper as a kit car, but it will be almost impossible to insure/register it

should read some of the threads on the Nissan boards, some are linked here, and in the general car talk. basically their transmissions are terrible and break extremely easy.

me personally i think the r34 is still the nicest looking of the skylines, and still is the most tuner friendly. you will not blow up ur tranny after launching it 15 times and have to pay 20k to replace it. over the pond there are plenty of 1000hp r34s ripping around

There are a few of those running around on base here in England. I know one of the guys. He also has a Sylvia that he's doing an engine swap on, but he's leaving the GTR stock as far as I know. It's white and I think the only aftermarket stuff is wheels and exhaust.

Speaking of DBSs, I saw one a few weeks ago at a restaurant on the side of the A11 between my house and Newmarket (Big horse racing town here, tons of money). I grabbed a snack, and the guy that owned it looked like a real toolbag. Snobby and geekish. Not that being a geek is bad, but he just seemed like a douche. Badass car though. Black, and it was sex on wheels.
