... fender bender..... help.

well.. drivng on 355 today.. a guy infront of me MASHES the brakes on his 98 avalon... me paying complete attention to him since we were in traffic... I swirve out not to hit him.. and clip him with my front left side... I am blown, pissed, frustrated everything........

The guy was agressively shifting lanes with out signalling for a few miles.. and i was keeping away.. but i decided to shift into the lane because it was the only fast moving lane.

Anyway he slams on the brakes.. and so do I and still ran into him even pulling the car off to the side. His car bent plastic bumper and scraped paint.....

rediculious thing is.. when he got out of the car.. he comes up to me and goes.. bro sweet car how much would you charge me to make me those kinds of lights that you have... this was the FIRST thing he said. Also turns out that if he has one more moving violation he gets his license revoked.

Sorry to hear about that man. If you want the job done right, you'll need a new front bumper too. You can't remove bends and creases nor body work the bumper....

im in the same boat.

go to different body shops and go with the highest quote, maybe even work out a deal with them to get parts yourself and have them install them that way it actually costs less to fix and you can keep some of the money. depending on your insurance company, will determine how much you get. i was low balled at 800 for my repairs, the first shop i went to quoted me over 3k

Hope you weren't ticketed. This looks like something for insurance. Too much damage not to use it. Awful. Even used stuff will cost more than insurance hike, no? (What's name of place in Catskills that has lots of Audi parts cars??? Can't remember, but somebody here knows)

well.. as far as insurance.. seems like a little problem since for this car.. i have the one side.. which means since this would be considered my fault... the insurance would only pay for his repairs i think... and that leaves me paying out of pocket for my repairs.

Issue is whether you have comprehensive collision coverage (as opposed to just coverage for liability for damages to others) -- is that what you mean by the "one side"?

Whats shady about getting a better deal on parts? It works out for both parties. Instead of insurance paying 500 for a brand new bumper, why not pick one up for 200 used? If anyone is shady its the insurance company. They are trying to fix a crack in a polyurethane bumper and not do the right thing and replace the bumper.

If you have to pay out of pocket do some research on line. You will find reasonable prices for new parts. However, if your fender is a 4.2 it may take awhile. The lowest price I found for my car was $255 and $25.00 for the liner with free shipping. all others told me I can only get it from the dealer. It was close to $400 for my driver's side at the dealership.
If you can find used parts the problem will be finding a matching color to your car. Painting a different color fender to match hardly turns up right unless its stripped down completely. Most used parts usually charge half of what it would cost at the dealership, best to get it new from an online warehouse that way its perfect with no dings or dents. You may pay a little more than used but you are getting what you paid for (peace of mind)

I would like to think you were just recommending an agreed upon settlement, but you can see why your point could have been interpreted otherwise.

Oh snap. I wish I had seen this thread sooner. I just did this repair back in January. I could have helped you get an OEM fender for that price.

The headlight is the biggie. Used, they are $350. New they are closer to $550. The problem with used is that they often have pitted lenses or have a cracked tab or two.

I joined Audi Club North America for $44 and got wholesale price from a dealer that gives discounts to ACNA members.

Check out car-part.com, you should be able to find all of those parts for relatively cheap. I rebuilt an A4 couple years back for dirt cheap (ie $250 for hood in matching color etc. )

Well, that piece is riveted on so it will not be laying around to just grab. You'll either have to drill out the rivets on a salvage car or buy one from the dealer:

Since it is not OEM, the alignment may be slightly off at the hood and door seams. Also, the OEM ones are galvanized before being primed. I doubt that the aftermarket ones get that treatment.
