Ghost Squad Garage Intake pipe installed

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Ok fellas, for those of you who have not installed or purchased GSG's intake pipe, i'll give you a lil review as their sponsored car.
First of all props to the guys at GSG for the quick shipping, always makes an enthusiast happy to get his beloved purchase quickly!
    Now for the install.

    All you need is:
    -Flat head screw driver
    -Phillips head screw driver
    -Pliers
    -Elbow grease

Now because I had an intake to begin with (EVOMS cone with Carbonio Shield) I will explain the whole thing with this in mind.
First, make sure to remove the plastic inlets (if you have the Carbonio you have to do this, if you have the EVOMS you don't) and clear the area for work.
With the pliers, clamp down on the fasteners and begin removing the stock crappy intake pipe. There will be two fasteners, one at the base of the intake cone and one at the top of the turbo inlet. Remove the two and set down the cone.

Here comes the part where you see WHY the GSG pipe is so much better then the stock Audi piece. Look into the plastic pipe and notice how the interior portion is riveted and demonstrates how instability can be created in the air flow. For this, GSG has developed a pipe that is straight and does not compromise flow.

    Final part of the install

Test fit the pipe without the clamps or couplers to guarantee you know what fit you like (a lot of people don't take the time to fit it right and end up complaining that it doesn't fit, it does, perfectly in fact if you take the time to get it right). Once this is done setup the pipe with the couplers and clamps lined up and tightened appropriately. Line up the GSG pipe on the cone first and clamp that down so that the final fitment onto the turbo inlet is correct and tight. Make sure everything is lined up and VOILA!
Fire up the car and listen to the difference.

    The benefits:
    as proven by me.

    -Improved throttle response
-Sound (woosh) and BOV are much louder
-Slightly better acceleration (it truly does improve)
-The air flow is improved, engine appears to run better
-sexyness factor, the piece will look any engine bay look great

I'll spare the pics because they are all on the GSG site (www.ghostsquadgarage.com)

If any of you have questions or would like more in depth info I can provide you with that. I've driven hard on the pipe today for over 100 miles of testing and the engine feels much stronger and complete with this, I must say, Audi should have provided something of the sort straight out of the factory, too bad thats not reality though lol
Special Thanks to Laurence and Jordan at GSG

And make sure to sit tight for the GSG FULL intake coming soon...

it wouldn't change anything honestly, it's a very straight forward install.
For those of you who are stock, you will notice probably a bigger difference when the pipe has been installed versus ppl who already have an intake. Nonetheless, even I with an intake notice VERY noticeable gains along with the sense of a better working engine overall. Turbo seems to spike a lil more!

Honestly, please correct me if i am wrong, to dyno an intake pipe would be a waste, I doubt you will see a huge hp gain or a dyno being able to measure a quicker throttle response, etc.. When I had mine installed, I noticed a huge difference off the bat.

As for temps, I remember seeing a temp log for the pipe....If i had a vag I would check them =D

Actually although it is $289 as regularly shown, GSG is holding a sale until OCT 31ST for $230! Trust me guys, once you see how pretty it looks in the engine bay you wont regret it... Not to mention the benefits for your engine!

here is the link to the sale.

Am I the only one that thinks 289 for a pipe is a little ridiculous? And please don't say anything about the turbulent flow caused by the stock intake pipe unless you have ANY kind of simulation to back it up.

you dont need a simple simulation, u need logic...try blowing through a small straw that has ridges in it...you think the air coming out the other end will be flawless and even flowing? heck no.

now try with a straight straw that is slightly wider then the initial crappy one and you'll see the flow in NOT compromised.

    There's your simulation for you.
And the pipe is on sale for $230.

if you think that's overpriced then how about all the intakes out there that are made for our cars that technically dont do much other then sound because of how crappy the stock pipe is. This unit actually ELIMINATES that problem and makes your whole intake better.

Re: Ghost Squad Garage Intake pipe installed

For information purposes, a dyno will never be done with this as it's not worth the time\$ spent.
Each dyno run is going to differ from 3-6whp and that's what proclaimed CAI's are producing. So how can I honestly say that it gave it 4hp when the next run shows a different # ? This small of an increase you are not "honestly" able to reproduce on paper.
The improved throttle response and better running engine and slight increase in power are more felt through the accomplished drivers seat as opposed to a graph.
The testemonies from every single person that has purchased this should speak for itself and that's where I place my trust and sales, in the hands of enthusiasts who want to feel a difference and have more efficient, better sounding and better looking vehicle.
Common sense and a basic understanding of how airflow and engines work should suffice enough data for this.
Carbonio doesn't supply dyno's for a $400 cai that produces negative hp and nobody seems to mind gobbling that piece up.

I need a little more answers if I am going to order this.

    1. Can you use the OEM attachers for the pipe.

    2. If no, then does the pipe come with the necessary items to install?

    3. First engine mod so I am nervous.

Re: Ghost Squad Garage Intake pipe installed

Carbonio takes in hot air just like EVOMs. The only difference is they take in air faster than the amount of time it takes for the moving air to heatsoak. So they really don't do anything but make noise, and possibly a little detriment to performance, but not even 1 horsepower. A few bees maybe, lol.

You guys think the pipe could ever come down to $100-150 depending on future sales? I'd jump on it then.

Re: Ghost Squad Garage Intake pipe installed

So i bought this a while ago, here is how it DOESN'T fit with the Carbonio.

GSG told me that it would fit, and when i emailed them, they told me a few other people with carbonios and their pipe didn't have issues. if any of you guys with a carbonio and gsg pipe have pics, can you post up. they haven't gotten back (like i was told) to me with a solution, nor have proven to me that the pipe does work with a carbonio. i guess they are caught up in making their money and not so much with customer service. maybe offer a refund and take the pipe back??? i can't get back what i paid for if i sell it on my own, especially not with the sale thats going on.

the pipe doesn't line up. and no amount of "finagaling" is going to get it to fit. at the price i paid, it should line up with no issues. the pipe is a simple mandrel bent piece of pipe. the stock pipe bends in two directions, theirs only 1.

    my pics.

note how the pipe doesn't line up with the maf when the pipe is put on the turbo first it over shoots it. it goes too high for the carbonio.
also note how the pipe doesn't line up with the turbo when its mounted to the maf first. it should have a 2nd bend downward. instead the pipe overshoots the turbos inlet
and is also at an angle.

and trust me, i've tried everything to get it to fit, clamping one side first and forcing it on the maf, vice versa. twisting this and that. nothing

this intake only works with the evoms and stock intake, unless someone else steps up with pics on the fitment.

honestly you tend to realize that the carbonio is not the best intake out there for the audi and that its only for people who really want the appearance of the carbon...the EVO cone is much better suited if you go in the direction of the intake pipe.

audinoob....the reason why the pipe isnt fitting correctly is because you have to play with the Carbonio intake as well. Carbonio DID admit that the intake itself was a little off compared to stock... that couple with the fact that the GSG pipe is a SOLID pipe and not flexible like the crappy stock one means that the flaw in the CARBONIO is only amplified when you factor in the GSG product.
The pipe does with if you play around with the carbonio and bent the silicones fasteners the right way.

I will suggest to all to go with the EVOMS then instead of the Carbonio if this is causing you so much mental aguish as to accuse GSG of bad service such as this fellow. Dont rush to conclusion here please as they are not trying to profit off of you by ripping you off. Jordan and Laurence are some of the best in the industry and will spend and hour on the phone with you if you need explanation. Be patient as you are not modding a Honda civic....
