As you all know i have a constant need for more power. I love my A4 to death but i just don't think i can get the power i want from this car without some serious money. Would you trade your A4 for a Low Mileage Stage 3 S4?

Most importantly it would depend on who's footing the bill.

i don't get it, u're looking for a b5 s4 now cuz the apr kit isn't making the +300whp? why don't you just get the asp kit which is supposedly making 320whp on stock internals? i have nothing against apr, but why such brand loyalty? did you have cars before with apr products as well or is the chip and fuel pump your only experience with them? also it seems as though you're not doing much of the work yourself and in that case, a stg3 b5 s4 wouldn't be the car for you imo.

I do all my mods myself. I want a Stage 3 S4 because the 4 cylinder just doesn't have enough power for me. I really dont want to put another 8k+ in the A4.

If I recall correctly you're 17...maybe 18 now. Anyways, I don't know, nor have I ever heard of someone that age making enough money on their own to afford the mods you have, are talking about doing, let alone buying an S4 or insuring one for that matter.

If you sat down and really did the math, it wouldn't take long for that 8k in the A4 to be surpassed by the S4 between maintenance, insurance, gas, other mods, etc.

The S4 is a more expensive car in every aspect, especially a B5.

Aren't your folks paying for it all anyways?

I think this is the direction that I'm headed. I just don't see the point in dumping so much money into a daily driver that i'm just going to beat on and it will never be as fast as I want it to be. I'll hopefully pick up an e36 325is in the next year and start by just gutting it and slowly adding mods as the funds allow. I'm going more for a quick rwd road car. Should be a fun project and I'll still have hopefully a somewhat reliable daily with the A4

I wanted to get a b5 s4 before I got my B7 but it didn't work out, but have you ever considered an evo or sti they make big power easily and don't have the high maitenence costs of the s4.

The majority of Evos, STIs, and Supras (original Supra TT) are not in any way rice. There are the few that fall through the cracks, but most of those cars are/were expensive enough that they were treated a little better and more seriously. Money certainly can't buy you taste, but Evos and STIs can be done the right way and kick major ass. I'm hoping to get one in the next year or so myself.

For how much money you have put into your car/will put into a stage 3 B5 S4, I honestly think that if you want power, the better route to go would be something like a 335Xi. With just a chip you can beat M3's.

And you still have a luxury car, not like the STI or the EVO. Honestly, that's the route I think I'm going to go. The Audi just isn't sporty enough for me, nor is it really "the car" for me.

Its probably foolish b/c you have a lot of money in your car as is, and B5 S4's require a lot of money in upkeep every year

Go for it if thats what you really want and don't let anyone change your mind its your money. A St3 S4 will put a smile on your face every time you get in it plus it seems like you're pretty handy so maintaining the car won't be difficult for you.

Just enjoy the ride brotha! It's not all about how fast you can get to 100, but if you can cruise there with 1 hand on the wheel and feel very safe and comfortable. Just buy the STaSIS BT and call it a day. When I've got the mula, that's what I'm doing.

Isn't there a point though when you realize no matter how much money you put into a car, it'll never really be fast enough and if you add up all the money you put into that one car, you could have bought a much nicer car?

There is. But you have to remember what you've got. An A4 that is very, very fast. It's all yours. It's your custom car. Sure you can go buy a nicer car, but why not surprise people with a super fast A4.

I think that even if you have a faster car, say a Porsche GT3, you start adding modifications to it to make it faster and you will always want to go faster cause you get used to the amount of power it's putting down to the ground.
The difference in the case with the Porsche is the fact that it was a very fast car to start with. The A4 is really not that fast of a car, there are tons of cars out there that are much cheaper or even in the same price range that could smoke the A4.
I guess looking at all the mods, I'm just getting a little frustrated... It also sucks when you've driven a lot of faster cars before and have "dipped your toe in the pool."

I would advise you to keep your car! The grass is not always greener. A stock S4 only has about 260 hp. You will spend more money on modding it. In the end you will have an old car with an outdated interior that looks outdated that goes really fast. If thats what you want go for it.
Just buy the APR stage 3 kit ( or one of the other brands) with the GT series turbo, the golf has about 380whp, so quattro should be around 350 WHP thats alot of power. It will cost you the same to do the S4. Plus you have already spent 4-5K on your car that you won't get back, put the kit on and be done.
