CLutch is slipping, what should i do...

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So my clutch has been slipping, getting worse every day probably for the last week. Yet i just spent 450 dollars getting 4 synchros and 3 gears replaced...and also a disc in my clutch replaced. Now they told me at the time my clutch has a little less than half the life left on it.

How could this be happening, i've been really disappointed lately with the audi. I am not going to want to pay a dollar towards fixing the car. The service dept chipped my car, installed my exhaust, so im not liable...

    what should i do?

I assume you bought your car used. Well look at it this way, once you have it all fixed you almost have a brand new car again. I hope there is nothing else wrong with it.

Isn't the car still under warranty? I would the the syncros and gears should have been replaced under warranty.

Re: CLutch is slipping, what should i do...

Well obviously the warranty plan that doesn't cover those transmission problems. I remember speaking with them when i got the gears/synchro's fixed, they told me its not under warranty. Also, they said something along the lines of what are they going to tell Audi of America if they put it under warranty? Are they going to tell them "yes we chipped a car, and because of the software our service department installed on the car, which is why his transmission is breaking, so can you pay for it??"

Your dealer is bunch of idiots if they flashed the car for you and are now voiding your warranty because of it. That is the whole purpose of getting chipped at the dealer...

i had a chip on my b6 along with a fmic, bigger injectors, boost guage, and bunch of other bolt ons and they warrantied an entire tranny under warranty although i turned the chip off when i brought it in. yours should be moreso under warranty since the dealership installed the chip i thought.

The best way to compensate for bad service: Hot females!

Everytime im caling my internetcompany to say that they overcharged me or there is something else wrong, the women (always a women!) that awnser always have this "come take me right here" sound in here voice. So the only thing i have in mind is: what do you have on you?

Re: CLutch is slipping, what should i do...

Brought my car to them on Tuesday, They first started to even touch my car yesterday. They call me saying that 2 mechanics drove it and they cant seem to diagnose/see the problem. So I have to come down there, i drive it and the guy is like "wow yeah now i see it", so i mean i guess i'm the professional. So i got a call yesterday at around 530 saying its my throttle body, and il be getting it back today. Now i just got a call back saying its my clutch "switch"....basically its not registering when I'm fully off the clutch. SO now im not getting it back untill Monday or Tuesday, knowing them...probably Wednesday...

Im so fucking pissed off at this bullshit, they always do this shit to me. Any recommendations on if i should do/demand something, lol?

yep, demand a little more patience from yourself, be happy it's all fixed by next wednesday, and enjoy the drive. They're not doing anything to you, they're finding problems that need to be fixed and fixing them for you.
Be nice to them, and it might go a long way. Maintenance on these cars is not a perfect science, there is some art involved, and that requires patience sometimes.

I have and recommend the south bend clutches, certainly worth a look, and well thought of on several Audi forums. Stage 3 OFE is what I'm running, so it's got pretty much a stock feel, but is stronger.

You're not going to want to get too hardcore with the clutch if it is a daily / traffic commuter car.

    Cheers.

i'm sorry. something doesn't sound right here.

it seems very odd that your clutch is slipping and you had your synchros and gears changed before 20k miles. if you drive your car "right" as you say, you shouldn't be experiencing these problems so early. and if you had gear problems so early, you should have gotten it fixed under warranty.

i'm also surprised that they didn't say anything to you about your clutch when they were doing your transmission work.

you might be able to spin this in your favor though. let them know that ever since you got your car back, your clutch has been slipping. if they changed some mystery "disk in the clutch" , they probably had to remove your clutch, which means that they should have warned you that it was worn, or they might have not replaced it properly. 800 miles shouldn't be making that much of a difference that your clutch went from "it's in great condition" to "it's worn so bad that its now slipping".

you might be able to get them to fix it under their own "work guarantee" policy. look up the policies wherever you got your work done, and see if their wording helps you out.

Re: CLutch is slipping, what should i do...

Most likley a defective clutch. Mine started to go at 8k. And the clutch on my last Corrado lasted me until 225k with the original hardware, until I sold the car. I do wonder though how Anchor Audi handle this with AOA. I would bring legal action against Anchor if you are refused a warranty by AOA. Their prices on labor and parts are already bad enough, and AOA apparently considers clutches a wear item, just like brake pads and tires, even though there are a high percentage of clutches that fail prematurley.

sorry i didnt give you guys an update on anything. I have been driving my car ever since, actually just hit 21,000 miles today. Bottom line, is that i am displeased with Anchor Audi, ive heard a multitude of things about them. I personally dont like how a few of the service assistants treat me. For the Last month i have been researching deals on getting a new car, and since then the car has been even worse. VERY often the cars problem would get worse or something else would happen. Im not going to get into it because it is pointless now but from my experience the last 3 thousand miles on my car + Anchor Audis Asshole-ness....led me to getting rid of my car, and taking a break from Audi and definitely a long break from ANCHOR AUDI.

If anyone from Anchor audi is reading this, please tell John, the hot asian girl (forgot her name), and the short haired blonde chick (forgot her name, nice, but asshole)...that is was because of you 3 that i have decided to do this. I loved my car since the day i got it, my first stick car, my first modded car...but because of you 3, you have just lost a future customer.

Oh yeah, and your preowned department, offered me $15,000 for my car...thats with everything back to stock (with the rear bumper scuffed up a bit but no biggy). That also pushed me further away from Anchor as well. I went to another Dealership and was offered $19750......now isnt that a little strange? correct me if im wrong...but thats a $4750 difference. You must play people for a fool.

Sorry for blowing up (although it is my thread anyways lol). If anyone else has the problem i explained earlier above, hope you get the problem solved and maybe bring this Thread back to life in the near future.

Damn! I'm sorry to hear about this. This goes the same for me. I'm almost at my end with Audi. I got the same type of service near my area. And I just got a call stating that my warranty is voided. ANd I have 43k on the odometer. The only thing done is that my car is lowered. Nothing else. What a sad situation...

Don't blame the car, Blame the driver.
While that did catch my eye as I was reading, there really has been an unusual trend with premature clutch failure on the B7. My jetta was my first stick car, and that clutch lasted me 70k. Now with 7 years of driving stick, and driving like an adult, my A4 has less than 8k, and my clutch already feels like it is starting to slip. No matter how bad someone drives, a clutch shouldnt need to be replaced at 8k, unless they are pushing crazy amounts of power or deliberately trying to trash the clutch.

That is disappointing to hear what happened, but glad to hear you got a new M3 - very nice choice!

THis is true. I was simply running a full exhaust and APR software. Many other Aziner's have many more mods than me, and many dont have problems this early. Theres definitely something wrong here.

There are definitely problems with the b7 clutch and tranny. I have 4k miles on my 08 and the clutch and transmission are worse than any of the ten different manual cars I have owned. The clutch already feels likes it is slipping and it is hard to shift into 2nd gear most of the time. I have heard a lot of other people have trouble with the 2nd gear synchro as well. Going into the shop again I guess, makes me actually want to go back to VW (never had any problems with any of my VW's I purchased new, only with my Audi's) or to BMW
