Trading my stock exhaust for an AWE...need help!!

Ok so today i ran into a big turbo 1.8t on the turnpike and i ended up pulling him off at the next rest stop. The guy doesnt know too much about it, since he just bought it today, so after checking it out and looking at a book of reciepts, it has a gt28rs turbo with a full exhaust, not sure what kind of downpipe however the exhaust is AWE. After talking more, the guy said he doesnt like how loud it is, which IMO i think it sounds awesome. He told me he would like to get rid of it, and then suggested trading his exhaust for my stocky.

    His car:

    2003 A4 1.8t 5 speed with GT28RS

    Mine:

    2004 A4 1.8t 6 speed with K03

We would like to have this done sometime next week, and i know its really stupid to put a factory exhaust on a big turbo'd car...however its his choice so i would like to take advantage of it.

Now i know that after looking into 3" test pipes at eurocode, they mate up with the factory exhaust, however my concern is that with him having a big turbo, most likely with a different kind of 3" downpipe, that it won't mate up with my factory exhaust. Pretty much i know that the end of the pipe going to the BT is different than mine, but does the other end identicle to other test pipes that are sold to mate up with the factory exhaust?

I hope this isn't the case, but please prove me wrong!

maybe you should just order a new downpipe for your car then swap the rest.

Awesome deal for you! Sent you PM on the other forum on a place to get the swap done.

The downpipe should be the same regardless of turbo used. The difference in turbo flanges only exist between the exhaust manifold and the turbo. From there, the turbo bolts onto the catalytic converter (or high flow cat or test pipe). The downpipe starts after the cat, so it should be universal for a manual 1.8T B6 A4.

I would imagine that the previous owner of that other A4 bought the full catback exhaust which includes the upgraded downpipe. AWE also offers the exhaust without the downpipe (to attach to your existing downpipe). You can always get the downpipe later if the other car is using the stock downpipe. Either way, your getting a better setup than stock.

    Congrats!

AWE's exhaust is only for the quattro drivetrain (according to their website). I know that eurogruppe's USP is quattro and the other A4 must be quattro in ordedr to have the AWE exhaust, so this should not be an issue.

    Ok thanks for the help.

Yes both cars are Quattro, and i was going to order the 3" test pipe from eurocode becuase im most certain that the other guy needs to keep his, also i don't want to rob ALL his power hahah.

I have this exhaust. You'll need the 6 speed downpipe to trans adaptor for this exhaust since your car is a 6 speed.

check the install instructions on the AWE website.

Re: Trading my stock exhaust for an AWE...need help!!

Since you can't open it, here's what they say:

Installation of this exhaust on a 6 speed transmission
03-05 B6 A4 requires the use of the included
adaptor between the downpipe bracket and the
factory bracket that attached to the transmission.
Discard this adaptor bracket for use on a 5 speed
    B6 A4.

Since the other A4 is a 5 speed, I'm guessing that the adaptor braket was thrown out. You can ask the owner if he has it. If he doesn't, you'll need to contact AWE to get this braket in order to work with the 6-speed transmission.
