Re: really really lightweight 17" wheels

OZ ultraleggera's are 16.7 lbs according to tirerack and go for $272. They're known to be soft, but I haven't bent my 19s yet. Although I'm pretty careful about avoiding potholes and such. Also, the 17's will be stronger anyways because they are smaller. In addition to light wheels, you should look into lighter rotors as well. I'm pretty sure the stock rotors are pretty heavy. Does anyone have specs on how much they weigh?

The only standing start, straight line racing I enjoy is on the way to the first corner.

Works If you want to go the Japanese rout just have to see which ones will fit. I had the xd9's on my Z and they were one of the lightest rims out there at the time I picked them up. Pete remind me about this later and I will try and help you out if i come out tonight.

SSR Comps (I think). They were super light although they're out of production. You might be able to find a used set somewhere

Ultraleggeras FTW. I'm excited for my set! I'm hoping that those, combined with a 11lb. battery and taking my spare out, will make a noticeable difference! For those who haven't noticed, our battery is gigantic, and has to weigh 50+ pounds.

These are one of the most underrated wheels out there right now IMO....

Superlight and very inexpensive. I have seen them a couple of times recently on cup/GT cars shown on SPEED channel's race coverage.

I have a set of 17x8 OZ Ultraleggeras, but they're not 16.7 lbs each.
mine weighs about 17.6 lbs each.
their website indicates each wheel in 17x8 weighing 7.74 kg (17 lbs) and upto 5% error in wheel weight, which means it could weigh upto 17.85 lbs.
but they're about 10 lbs lighter than the stock 17" or 18" and that's pretty significant.
I'd recommend 17" OZ Ultraleggera as well

just realize your risking a easy bend if you skimp on quality for such a light wheel

How much are those Team Dynamics 1.2's? I can't find prices anywhere, but they look better than ultraleggera's.

I just saw an add in performance vw, has 17 for 639 pounds and 18 for 795 pounds, dont know what that is exactly in dollars but it should give you an idea how much.

Re: really really lightweight 17" wheels

+1 on the oz's. i've had 17x8 superleg's on my beater a4 for a few years, no issues. that's in SF with terrible roads. the TD's are great, as are the kosei's. we ran 17" Volk's on the racecars here, they're bananas light and strong. A buddy just got TR typhoon's from tirerack, they were very light for an 18x8, iirc.. beautiful wheel too.
