I'm trying to convince my friend to get it. The only thing is. His dad is worried about the warranty. Can the dealer locate the software on the car. Is the lockout program needed to keep the dealer from detecting the software?

You have to get the stock program additionally, or they can tell just by driving, and the lockout, or they could tell by activating the flipswitch.

People say that chips are undetectable by an Audi technician...but if it can be activated by the cruise control stalk and be found out within seconds if you have one how are people so sure that the "secrecy" of the chip blanks the technician? A technician wouldn't have to go out of their way to see if someone had a chip...

If you put the ECU back to the stock program with security lockout, the dealer cannot see the APR software. There's not a log on the ECU either.

Only if they can prove if it is the cause of a problem
Iirc theres a law that makes it so they cant void your warranty if they just find it.

security lockout prevents anyone from seeing you have the software...only after you put in the 4 digit code can you see that software is switchable.

No, If your DV blows and they know you are chipped they will make you pay for it. If your suspension has a problem they have to prove that the chip caused the problem. If your heated seat breaks it will be very tough to prove the chip caused that. I'm pretty modded and haven't had any problem with them doing my service or getting things replaced under warranty! Find a service writer that you like and that likes your car along with mods.

Get APR, get the lock out, get the stock program, get a new DV, and call it a day. All will be well.

Im in total agreement here. Luckily i have a very mod friendly tech who knows im chipped. When i first blew the DV he replaced it free but told me to go aftermarket because audi would start to question why i kept blowing them. I still turn my chip off everytime it goes in....

The federal law is called the Magnuson Moss act and it was enacted due to a number of auto makers trying to void warranties due to people having service done at dealerships other than there own. There were actual cases brought by auto makers trying to void warranties because if an oil change isn't done by the original dealer then its technically a "modification" of the vehicle and the companies were winning these types of cases.

To void any type of warranty claim the dealership has to prove that the alteration which you have made caused a part to break. If they give you a hard time just print out the Magnuson Moss act and hand it to your dealership, it normally shuts them up.

Oh, and no APR software is detectable by a dealership, its all hidden and will not show on there in house software so don't worry about it. If they take it for a drive and say "your car feels fast, you have a chip" the burden of proof still falls on them to actually prove you did something to the cars software to alter it. If they say that just tell them you have no clue what they are talking about, they have to PROVE you did something, which is quite hard to do.

search around on here. he is not the first person to cry about being scared. the big chip companies all allow you to switch to stock programming. i know one audi dealer that flashes APR and another that flashes Stasis so he can take the drive to a dealer like that if he wants.
