for my ecu, when you bench flash it, you get a few codes the next time you log in with vagcom. if you clear the codes, 4 return.

the first screenshot is of the first log in with vagcom. stock file. "6 fault codes"
the second screenshot is of the first log in with vag after flashing a "test" file i made. ;)

bench harness set up: laptop > flash cable > bench harness (harness with obd2 plug with ecu connection on the other end) > ecu.

first is the stock file after flashing.
second is a file that i edited and then flashed.

heres my current set up. im currently using an xbox360 as a 12v source. :p

You are asking for trouble with the ECU on the carpet like that, I am surprised it hasn't been ruined from static discharge yet.

How would he store the picture on the ECU. He has to make a file so everyone that plugs a OBD port in will have the reading of no fault codes. Rite?

No exactly the point, it appears to me that Ian most likely has the developer tools necessary to modify the code in the ECM, and may or may not be able to reprogram them.

He posted up screenshots of the VAG-COM software as a teaser of some of his progress.

pretty clever. are you coming up with a just ODB II interface or do you always have to hook up the ECU?

there are tools that will do the me7.1 over just obd2 (in the car) but they are $$. its no big deal for me though. its easier to test changes in the comfort of my living room. i havent made it to changing the actual maps yet. soon maybe. ive been doing more just poking around in the file and looking for stuff. like dtc tables. :p

no. i have a friend thats an old revo dealer. i borrowed it from him.

it would be very easy to make though. you can purchase obd connector+pigtails from websites. and the ecu connection could had from a vw/audi dealer. or im sure you can find an aftermarket one. or rob one off an old engine harness. :p

well depending how hardcore he is he could be using a raw dump of the hex and playing with it that way. but i think he has something a bit more advanced (well atleast i hope he does) and him mentioning a friend a revo who knows

nothing to fess-up. im using winols.

edit: some are not correct, im sure of it, and i have no way to check what they are 100%. some are confirmed correct maps.

its about as raw as you can get. but the checksums will not allow you to use a basic hexeditor to make changes. you either need software that fixes the checksums on the fly when you edit or software that will allow you to edit and then fix them later on (ecufix). and my friend is no longer a revo dealer. not for almost a year now. im just tinkering with stuff on my own in my spare time. which is pretty much all time now, since i got laid off. :(

i used to be a member there. but since i am not a business owner (or an employee for that matter anymore), my account is longer active. they really shut that website down. theres no information there anyways. just self-ego boosts, revo bashing, and advertising. the admin of the website has his own line-up of chip tuning tools. theres another site ive been frequenting. a little more user friendly. but its still so hard to get any sort of me7 information out of people that have it.

and there is one emulator that i know of. its from the same company that makes winols, evc. it works with winols and will show you in real time where the ecu is pulling data from in the map. same as standalone ecus. http://www.evc.de/en/product/ols/ols300/default.asp

Plenty of folks know what he is doing and can do the same thing...for some crazy reason though, everyone holds their cards to their chest, as if there is a fortune to be made.

As far as the commercial chip tuners go, the B6 is dead technology and they have very little interest in doing any more file for it.

The big money is always in the latest model years.

i think he meant folks here in the b6 forum. since most of the posts were "der, what?" :p and tell me about it. information is so hard to get.

the "big money" is kiddies that buy new cars and want it chipped because they think it will be the fastest thing on the road. however, there is a market for older generations. look at the b5 and b6 communities now. look how many people are going with larger turbos. those people need some sort of tune.

I think that ME7 is not the way to go for this though, If Lugnuts can get his SEM (or somebody else) condensed to a package that will work with the B6, I think this is the wave off the future.

Most of the OEM sensors are top notch, the B5 and B6 will run like a raped ape eventually.

  39. #39

Re: so you guys wont have to visit the b5 forum. ;)

the benefit of me7 is that you can keep all emission components in check. either actually having them on the car or by editing them to the desired result. i dont know if lugnuts ecu will offer that feature.
