Need help with a thumping noise - B6S4

Intermittenly now when I turn the car off or just after I turn the car on the vehicle will make a thumping noise coming from what sounds like the bottom of the vehicle.

Just after I turn the vehicle off intermittenly will make 3 thumping noises. Thoses same 3 thumping noises are there intermittenly when I turn the vehicle on immediately afterward.

The 3 thumping noises happen within 1 second and it's loud and distinct.

Any ideas???

initial guess would be mounts (either motor or tranny) does it do the same under hard acceleration/deceleration?

Exhaust rattling around maybe? Is the car all stock?

Car is all stock manual transmission. It only doees it right after I turn the vehicle off and right after I turn the vhehicle on. It doesn't make any noise upon acceleration.

I'm going to venture guess that the exhaust is loose. Maybe a hanger became disconnected?

Yeah sounds like exhaust to me. Crawl under the car and see if you can spot anything that may have come loose. There are hangers in the center section of the cat-back portion as well as at the rear near the mufflers. If one of those broke or came loose, I bet that's what it is.
