Does anyone use Oettinger 4th,5th taller gear

I would like to know also, I think that really it's just TDI gears w/ the Oettinger name.

Can I get the TDI gears from someone/company in the states? Whats involved in changing out these gears? Aproximate cost of this job? thanks

Look on the oettinger website, those look like the OEM part numbers.

Installing them would pretty much require a total teardown of the entire tranny

or just the 2.8 4th and 5th gear parts. a used tranny would probably be cheaper though.

A 2.8 trans will be stronger, so putting 1.8 first thru third gears sets would be better then upgraded the 1.8 trans.

are you suggesting swapping the 1.8 1-3 gears into a 2.8 tranny?
i've herd that the 1.8 1st gear is a weak link, is that true?

B5 1.8 gears, sorry. If you plan on beating on the try having the cryo treated etc. before installing them. There has been B6 2 first gear failures that I know of, if you ask the people that broke them you'll probably find out that they were doing frequent lauches with a car load of people, ...Clint?

I plan on doing something like this during the winter. I was going to use my 1.8 trans and find a TDI 5th gear. Then cryo treat all the gears and put all new syncros in. You can get the gear from a few people on here. I just haven't had the time to start planning it.
