    Best place to buy brakes

So i found out i have 3mm on my front pads remaining and 0 on the rear, so i need pads and rotors all around.

dont really want to spend a fortune but i wanted to upgrade a bit, i was thinking of getting the 3.0 brakes and just getting some good slotted rotors and pads for the rear, unless someone can suggest something else in that price range

my question really is where to get it from, ecstuning has a kit for the front rotors and the caliper relocation bracket for $473 which seems expensive for just 2 slotted rotors and 2 brackets, if i go to tirerack and get 2 rotors for the 3.0 they are as low as $68 a rotor. So either that kit has some damn nice rotors or im missing something here?

Well I would say that a kit with 68$ rotors won't really be that good. It could be from China and the quality of the metal composition could be pretty weak. I think not even the brakes for my old 75 HP Golf TDI came that cheap. They were original VW though.

Do you know Zimmermann rotors? They're pretty low price but are quality aproven. It's a German brand. You can get two front rotors starting at 120$ i'd say and S4 drilled and vented rotors for arround 230$

I would try to find brakes, where the heritage is known and trackable. That way you'll always be on the safe side.

^^ yeah $68 for a rotor isn't too bad. That's pretty reasonable. Shit my brake pads for my 1997 VR6 passat were like $115 a set if i ordered the original VW part. The rotors were more expensive too. So for just pads and rotors i was looking at like upwards of $800 for all 4 wheels.

The problem is those 3.0L caliper carrier are $144 Each.

If you really have really want this kit look for a used set of caliper carriers at a junk yard. I have seen people take the calipers, lines and carriers from a junkyard for ~$100. Then order a set of rotors & from tirerack or purems.com and your set.

I usually get my brake pads and fluid from raceshopper.com. Great selection, knowledgable and good prices on high-end pads. Pagid, ferrodo..

I bought my rear 3.0 caliper carriers from www.genuinevwaudiparts.com and the price, IMO, was right.

    Item: Caliper mount Back - W/quattro 1.8 & 3.0 liter 2002 - 2005
    Price: $67.21
    Tax: $0.00
    Qty: 2
    Total: $134.42

    plus 8 dollars for shipping.

I bought my rotors from Adam on the group buy - $350 shipped for both fronts and rears, the fronts upgraded to B5 S4 / B7 A4 size (he also does the 3.0L conversion.

    Worth a look.

I bought zimmerman sport rotors and the stoptech stage 1 kit. About 750 shipped total. I like the brakes though, they stop better now - a little squeaky though.

R1concept.com Got all four rotors slotted and drilled, with pads for $400. They work great. If you call them you will get a better price. I was in the same boat. Looking to do the 3.0 brake upgrade too. But couldn't see spending so much on an upgrade of an inch for $400-$500. When i got all four and pads for $400 shipped. ( I commute alot too so couldn't reason with expensive rotors)
