No I don't think so. But you do have to have your cat there. You can't straight pipe it all the way to your exhaust. Hope that helps.

Actaully, by law you are supposed to have a catalytic convertor, BUT we don't have an emmissions test here. I've taken the cat off of several of my vehicles and they don't test for it so I've never had a problem.

Now you will run into a problem if we have an 02 sensor AFTER the cat. It will trip a cel. I don't know wethr we do or not yet, I haven't had a chance to check it out.

If you do decide to remove the cat, I'd hang onto it just for safe keeping. It shouldn't cost more than $40-50 if you needed to weld it back on for some reason.

    Re: Emission Law

you should be able to remove the cat without welding...it's a bolt on piece. you can also avoid the CEL if you space the 2nd O2 sensor from the bung with an anti-fouler.

i ran a straight pipe exhaust (test pipe paired with APR exhaust) on my 1.8tq and it wasn't annoying at all. i am not sure how the 2.0t sounds, but IIRC, it's throatier with a free-flowing exhaust.

either way you go, the turbo acts like a muffler and keeps the exhaust a little quieter, even if going straight pipe. it won't sound anything like a n/a car with straight pipes.
