    allroad detailing question

Do you do anything special to detail the dark grey bits: bumpers, fender flares and roof? Should I simply detail them like any other painted surface? Thanks.

    Re: allroad detailing question

Dont wax them. Its doesn't have paint or clear. If they have faded you can use a dye to get them back to a fresh charcoal. I used this on the bumpers of my old Volvo 850 and they looked awesome. Not my car below, but the same stuff was used-

The dye was a brand called Kiwi I think.

I'm pretty sure that they are painted. If they weren't painted, chips would show the same colour as the surface and that is not the case. Any chips I have show black underneath the dark grey surface.

They are painted. Try to clay them, but no wax. I did this to my roof and bumpers and it turned out great.

When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy’. They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.

So no protection then? Obviously I'm not try to make them shiney but keeping the colour and protecting them would good.

    Re: allroad detailing question

I spoke to my paint guy and he says I should detail it like any other painted surface. The mat finish will stay mat and the colour will be protected like I wanted. I will give it a try and post pics.

    Re: allroad detailing question

My mistake. I thought they were just black plastic. Did not know they were painted... I would still agree that with a matte finish you should avoid a wax. A polish or poly sealer may help, but test it in a hidden area first...

Umm, not sure I will bother. The surfaces aren't black and they aren't all plastic.

    Re: allroad detailing question

Seems to be a stumper even on some of the detailing web site forums. There were even several posts on one of the Ferrari detailing forum.

A post on AW reads: fwiw, the owners manual says to never wax it... but, I waxed mine and now it looks worse

One from Phil: Wes Mantooth's All Road detail....exterior /engine

However Troy H wrote: Full detail on the allroad today...initial review of Menzerna FMJ inside.

Another Troy H: Has anyone tried either Omega Glaze or Special Touch on the matte allroad parts? I know from my...

Another Troy H: Rick, first I'll say: Get the allroad, it's a great car. Second, what I've done with success is

Mine has the full body paint so I cannot impart any personal experience.

    Re: allroad detailing question

The two best detailing sites I use for reference are Goodspeedmotoring.com (you can email them direct for a specific question & Jeremy will be more than helpful) as well as Autogeek.net. Autogeek sells awesome products and also has a forum. Vheck that out & you may find what you need...

Not specific to the parts on the Allroad but I HIGHLY recommend Klasse and Pinnacle Souveran products from Autogeek. They did AMAZING things to my black A6 and have even restored some other cars that were heavily oxidized & sun damaged. Awesome stuff..

The two photos below are my reflection in my paint after I detailed it with Klasse and Pinnacle Souveran. People have asked if my mirrors were chrome. No, they are black.. I take pride in my damn good detailing...
