Anyway to disable city lights? (DEPO content inside)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So ya finally here are some pictures.
I'll write a more informative review later on but I hope this is good enough for now. There were some good and some bad but overall I am pretty satisfied. But I was never really an angel eye fan from the beginning...and each ring has 4 bulbs total, making 16 in total for both headlights. If you have 1/8 for each side, the bulb out warning light wont come on, if I wrap this bulb in duct tape, could this be bad in any way? Even if it just rests in the housing, the light will still make the angel eye glow a bit.

Can't you just disconnect the bulbs or is it fixed in?

A little off-topic but, how are the fitments on these DEPO lights? Is the cut-off good even from farther distances?

The bulb's can be disconnected, but thats what triggers the parking light out warning.

The fitments are absolutely perfect. I'm still unsure about the cutoff because when I adjusted them I was on an angled driveway, and when I was driving the cutoff was so low it was on the ground lol, the right side does seem a bit off though...I'm going to see if readjusting can fix it.

I was going to buy these but was hesitant because of negative comments I read about the beam pattern. I ended up getting OEM housings but I think these look great and provide a cheap option for us halogen guys. Nice black Ti BTW!

I don't understand how you guys say that the beam pattern is terrible. You tend to forget that these are a set of $300 lights that you are comparing to $1200-1500 Xenons. THESE ARE NOT GOING TO BE ANYTHING SIMILAR.
So, I think given the fact that these are a very inexpensive alternative for people that can't drop $1500 on lights, is a good option. Not all of us have the opportunity to afford everything we want. And looking at these lights, overall, they are not bad. The black housing looks great. The light output is not bad... totally functional. And that is the bottom line, these are totally functional.
So congrats on the purchase of the lights. I think they look good. And frankly that's all I care about.

I'll try to get pictures of that soon... thing is you need the headlight out to put them back in as these tiny tiny bulbs go right into the ring itself which is very far into the housing itself.

Exactly they put light on the road and enable me to use a drop-in HID kit without having to drop a grand.

Overall I'm pretty happy with the lights. They look really good in person and I prefer them over the halogens hands down. However...there were some things that I did not like about the headlights in regards to installation. The right light went on really smoothly, but the left light was another story. For some reason the clip where the headlight meets the harness was upside down...this wouldn't really be a problem but everytime you went to connect the female to the male plug it would just push the male back into the housing.

    And btw they don't fog
I'll get some night time pics when I get back from dinner with my girlfriend.

Re: Anyway to disable city lights? (DEPO content inside)

I noticed last night that the light output wasn't as great as I thought it was, but would an HID kit fix this? I'm thinking of getting this $70 kit from this 300zx forum.

Also I noticed that the cutoff is actually very very good, its just that the right side is crooked which throws the whole thing off. Do you guys know what causes this? Crooked Projector? Crooked bulb?

Hi- just want to vouch for the fact that these DEPO actually works with the HID drop in kit- it is a great option for those in a budget. Although I don't have a B7 A4, I have an 07 A3 (8p) that came with halogens. I couldn't afford the OEM hids, but opted to get a used FK Angel Eyes projector housing (which basically are made by DEPO- as the name "DEPO" is stamped at the back of the reflector- saw this when i was modding it with LEDs).
Initially, I didn't like the output (because of some 'weird' bright spots)..but as i found out, that I wasn't adjusting it properly (and the HID kit bulbs weren't seating properly in the bulb holder). After that was figured-out, I also realized that the cut-off was different (somewhat) than my previous Passat hella HIDs. The "up-slope" of the cut-offs were a bit off center than my previous passat hids. But once on the road- the cut-offs were perfect, and the up-slope helps illuminate the right side of the road just right.
I opted not to connect the Angel-eyes- i just dont think it looks right.
Below are photos of the beam pattern/cut-offs. I **assume** that DEPO basically uses the same lenses and reflectors for all of their angel-eyes.

That output is great. Before dropping in an hid kit did you take note of how bright the halogens were?

Yes- Ive placed my H7 HOEN 70w ''xenonmatch" lights and the out put was good- but the HID drop-in kit was 5x better i think. The cut-offs are sharper with the HIDs.

I see your night pics- and you definitely need to adjust your lights to level the cut-off lines. And the way your cut-off looks, one of the bulbs are not seated properly because the cut-offs looks like it is criss-crossed when u level it. I had to ''play'' with ''twisting" the bulbs clockwise or counter (by a mm, just a tiny bit being off the seat makes a big big diff) - while the HIDs were on (be careful). you will also notice that the ''bright spots' maybe off. But otherwise, once you have it all fgured out and adjusted properly- u'll be glad u got it- budget or not.

So I twist the bulb? I did notice that its not locked into place like the oem halogens but rather held in by a cage...but maybe this is how all projectors are. Can this cage itself be twisted?

Re: Anyway to disable city lights? (DEPO content inside)

Just to clarify, looking at ur pics, the left/driver side output shows one line going up and another line going down- they should be leveled (because, to oncoming drivers, that line that is going up essentially blinds them. It seems that the passenger side bulb needs to be seated properly. Just a reference to my pic- you see that the left side output cutoff is clean- because both the lef and riright cut offs are leveled to each other

No, its just cost cutting lol. My previous oem hid for my passat was a twist type bulb holder (d2s). The ones that FK/DEPO uses are flimsy- hence 'cheap'. But just a little patience and u'll work it out.

Yes- there's a ''slope'' or ''step-up" hence from afar the left output cut off is lower than the right side. However, my car was only 10ft away from the garage door when i took the photo.

Re: Anyway to disable city lights? (DEPO content inside)

is there any switch to swap the headlight from lefthand drive to righthand drive?
Im in Australia and I have to switch the higher side to low and low side to higher.
Is there any kind of switch can do this? or can i be adjusted by screwing the adjuster?

    cheers

    Paul

Probably not since the cut-off pattern is different. Even if you adjust the left by going higher and the right to go lower, the beam cut-off of each projector is made for left-hand side cars, so it'll still be off. Unless you disassemble the projectors and switch them with each side, there's no other way.

So I just ordered these to go on this weekend hopefully...any tips or advice on installation? Everything is plug and play right? Headlight harnesses and city light harness goes into angel eye harness?

I'll be getting the Deval RS4 bumper w/RS4 grille done by late next week too, so hopefully I'll have some pics up of everything soon
