Question Barely post, but would like your guys opinions...

I currently have a 2004 S4 with tons of mods, and I've decided to get rid of it and upgrade to an RS4. Here's my situation:

I've had the car since April of 2004 with about 50K on her and there are some minor problems. There are rock chips in the paint around the hood and side fenders, a small line of ink on the passenger seat, a small crack in the windshield, rims are really curbed up and scratched, a cracked fog light, and I think my springs are about to go because the car hasnt been handling too well.

Now don't get me wrong, to an untrained eye the car truly looks amazing, but I think these mishaps will only decrease to the value of the car to buyers. I know the market for these cars is terrible right now, but I was still hoping to unload it for something over 25K.

    Mods:
19x8 and 19x8.5 DCR Forged Laguna Seca
Toyo T1-R with about 50% thread
    H&R Lowering Springs
    Bilstein Shocks
    Milltek Downpipes and Catback (non-res)
    Stratmosphere Intake
    REVO Software
    Custom painted front grilles
Matte Grey matched roof painting to wheels
    Kenwood KVT-915 7.5 inch in-dash
    2 10' Kicker L7
    1 Digital 1000W Kicker Amp
    1 Multichannel Kicker 800W Amp
    Custom enclosure
    Custom Stainless Pedals

What do you guys think I should do? Should I spend a couple thousand and make the car immaculate then go to sell, or just see what I can get pre-repairs? Any input is appreciated, and let me know if you're interested!

IMHO...good luck getting over 25k for that B6 S4. I dont mean to sound like a douche...but B7 S4s these days sell for 30k CPO'd at the dealerships...nevermind private sellers. And as with most cars...its usually harder to sell cars that have been modded than those that havent been. People have a notion that if its modded, then it must have been raced at the track or on the street, has been abused to some degree, must have been driven hard at times, etc. So those thoughts just turn off most people. On the other hand, some would totally jump at the opportunity to start off with a modded car already simply because, for them, its a better start off point to getting a car they want. Good luck.

I'd probably spend a little money to fix the seat and the cracked fog light. The crack in the windshield should be covered by your insurance. If you're deductible isn't too high I would get that fixed too. The curbed wheels may be an issue. That's a show stopper for me. As for the chips in the paint, I have them too - not too noticeable unless you get right up next to it. It's a used car and people are going to expect a certain degree of wear. As long as your asking price is fair and reflects that, you're good.

You have a lot of mods that can be sold individually, like your wheels, intake, exhaust, and audio equipment. Do you still have the stock pieces for those? You might be better off parting out what you can. It's more of a hassle, but mods seldom add to the resale value.

$25K for a b6 with 50K is still pretty reasonable. But like everybody said, mods don't add anything to the value of the car unless you can find somebody wanting those exact parts (unlikely). If you have the stock parts, just put them back on or if you don't, just trade away the aftermarket stuff for stock pieces + cash. You should make out much better that way

Selling a car right now is nearly impossible. Stats came out on Friday...car sales are down at 17-year lows. I've had my car for sale for a month now. The first two weeks I had lots of interest but since the market crash, I haven't had any calls and my car is a more "sellable" 2.0T titanium in mint condition with $7k in mods priced below every other S-line in my market.

I would part it out and trade it in. Don't expect much more than high teens. Make up for it by getting a good deal on the RS4.

Strip the car back to bone stock and give it to a dealer. You'll take a hit but will make up for it when you sell the parts. It the fastest way out of the car.

    I looked a at a pristine 05 w/ 31k on it last weekend for $22,900.

If i were you i would swap out whatever parts you can to get your car as close to stock as possible and to recoupe whatever you are able to from them. Then i would do the cheap fixes like a second had fog light from a salvage yard, get the seat fixed (have you tried hairspray or magic eraser yet?), and get the windshield fixed or replaced. Cracked windshields will not pass inspection, and sell it for whatever you can get. Stuff like a curbed rim or two people can get over relativley easily becaus i guy that is looking at an S4 is a car enthusiast who may want to swap the rims out anyway. As for the rock chips, you can't do much about them, unless you get the front resprayed..

Re: Barely post, but would like your guys opinions...

Nobody has mentioned your handling problem. It's probably not your springs, spring failures are pretty rare. It could be your shocks, bushings, tires, or your alignment. Check the inside of your tire tread. Is the wear even across the whole tire?

For me, I can look past some minor cosmetic issues, but if the car drives poorly, the deal is off.

And next time, take better care of your car. There's no point in having a $50,000 car with $10K in mods if it looks like a POS.

And I agree, there's no way you'll get $25K for that car. There are lots of B6 S4's in excellent condition for that price, I wouldn't pay more than $20K for a car as you describe. The issues you list would make me wonder about how the car was maintained as well, and about the quality of the workmanship on the modifications.

Don't worry about the paint chips though, those are going to happen on any car, as long as they are just minor road debris related stuff.
