35 Watt HID kit issue DIPPED..HELP!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I have an 35x2 watt HID kit. I'm now getting an indicator stating that my left headlight is dipped. When I try and turn my headlights on now, the left tries to turn on, but fails.
It happened when I was driving for about 2 hours with the lights on.. and I pulled into a rest area, turned them off for about 5 minutes, then back on.. and bam.. dipped.

I had this problem about 6 months ago, but it eventually fixed itself when I would turn the car off and back on a couple of times. What does this sound like?

Overheated? Bad connection? Not sitting right? Short something? thanks in advance.

(The brand of HID kit is rikensport btw)

You have to get 55 watt HID instead. The system works with 55 watts, if it pulls less than that, it thinks that it's burned and stops sending power thru.

I had prolly the same problem. After driving in a hard rain for a while, car sat parked for a couple of hours and then it began going bad. But about 3 days after the problem went away, then a week later came back. It was working fine for maybe only 2-3 min, the problem was one of the ballasts, i just replaced it with a new one.

    one of two problems.
    It's either ballast or bulb.
If it's a ballast, you can replace one.

If it's a bulb, you'll need to replace both.
Bulbs have burn-in time whereby they change color within the first 200-300 hours of burning time and eventually "set" on their designed color.

So you'll have really funky looking bulbs if you only change one.

    with aftermarket HID kit,
always TURN HID on AFTER you start-up engine.
always TURN HID off BEFORE you turn engine off.
else, you may get DIPPED bulb soon.
(u'll hav to replace the HID bulb)

however, lastest aftermarket HID kit now regulates wider range of voltage and perfectly suits with 55W.

I let the car sit over night and tried it again and it's not working. If I unplug and replug the balast connection, you can hear the ballast having a connection for a second then doesn't. Everytime I unplug and replug the lamp blinks slightly, but doesn't turn on.

I'm trying to figure out if it's the bulb or ballast. But now that I look at it, this company Rikensport doesn't sell bulbs, only the entire kit.

This is so frustrating! Thanks for the info guys..

Like i said, my bulb was working maybe for 2-3 min. I'm 80% sure it is your ballast. But anyways, i ordered mine from VVME, takes them 3 bz days to get here to IL. I do have 2 spare bulbs (6000K) if u are interested.

oh wow so thats why I have to run my brights on for BOTH sides to light. So stupid, I bought the car with HIDs but they are probably 35 watt.

Re: 35 Watt HID kit issue DIPPED..HELP!

OEM HID lamps are rated 35 watts each side, but draw more than 70 watts due to the ballast being less than 100 percent efficient. The reason the "Dipped" head light warning is ON is because the ballast isn't drawing power because it's not operating. Usually, when a HID lamp ignites then goes out after a second or so, is because the ballast sensed a circuit fault or short, and shut down as a safety measure. If there is no circuit faults, then the ballast or HID lamp is faulty. Faulty components can be isolated by swapping side to side.

There is no relationship with "Dipped" headlight warnings and the wattage of the ballasts or lamps connected to the system.

"Dipped" in this context means "Low-beam", and is the English Euro term for Low-beam.

And a 55 watt kit would draw the necessary power to eliminate that?

No. The lamp fault detection is not simply based on power draw. The load from a 55 watt Halogen lamp, can't be directly compared to the load from a HID ballast, powered from the same circuit.
