    my dilemma

So I picked my car up from the audi stealershit this morning after having a rude awakening on my cell phone from the service manager, telling me everything wrong about my a4. I go in to look at the paperwork, and see that replacing the chain tensioners which were 2495, 540 for the front brake pads/rotors, 345 for the leaking trans seal, and axle seals were 540 to have fixed. I hadn't realized that the chains itself are expensive no matter where I'll go to have the car fixed b/c of the location and how hard it is to get in there to replace them. 540 for front pads/rotors? lol..That gave me a laugh as I drove home and had a lot to think about as I'd gotten to work later on in the day.

That quote for the brakes is a joke, I think they are playing you. All of those repairs would add up to like half the value of the car.

    Re: my dilemma

why are they wanting to replace the chain tensioners? mil? i assume the car runs fine right? Usually they only leak oil from the half moon seal and valve cover gasket leaks. I haven't seen too many just out and out fail completely, but then again im in FL not PA. With the special tool you can do the job in 2hrs for a 1.8t or 3 for a 2.8 and 4-5hrs for a 2.7. This job is easy to fuck up if you dont know what you are doing. parts are less than 100 bucks though, so i dont see how they are getting 2k+ unless also doing a T-Belt Service. Brakes are actually reasonable because each rotor i believe is about 100 and pads are another 50. Just to point out, not all dealerships are "Stealershits", but it is their responsibility to let you know about all the shit your car needs. imagine how pissed you would be if they didnt tell you about the chain tensioners and they siezed and you end up needing a head or engine right after doing a friggin oil change.

As an audi teck for a stealership so to speak. By chain tensioners you mean the cam shaft adjusters right? Does your car make a ton of noise right when you start up and then quiet down in about 5-10 sec. if so your tensioners are bleeding down. Not a major issue but will need to be replaced some time . your only going to lose power . your chains wont seize or anything.Front pads and rotors are a standard 2.5hrs at any dealer. 2hrs for pads.As for the trans seal im guessing your talking about the rear trans seal? if its $345 thats a good deal really. If its including the fluid replacement, drive shaft loosened and moved out of the way and the rear flange removed and seal replaced then jump on that offer. Our dealer charges 3 hrs for that job not including parts or oil. What do you mean by axle seals?

    $540 for discs and pads?

That would even be deemed expensive at our side of the pond.

    That's what I was quoted as well....outrageous!

I ended up getting some SPP slotted/dimpled rotors and PBR ceramic brakes for a little over $200 and did it myself.

It was one of the first big DIY projects I have done, and wouldn't hesitate to recommend others to do it!

    Ouch :(

DIY is the way forward, what you save on Main Stealer prices you can spend on other go-faster goodies instead.

That is in-fact what happens with my car in concern to the loud noise but it lasts longer at about 30 seconds, then sound is gone. As I'm reading the service report on my car from the Audi Dealership, it says the Left and Right Axle Flange Seals are $540 and Prop Shaft Seal which I'm not sure of is $345

I'm looking into buying a set of front slotted ATE Rotors and PBR Brake Pads and having some friends of mine install them for me, or if there's anyone out there that's within the area that could do them for me

    Re: my dilemma

2 hours to change front pads? I could do it in under an hour using no air tools and no lift, taking my time. Do that yourself.
