    Southbend clutch finally broken in...

Finally got the new clutch broken in and have been taken it fairly easy on it for the last 800 miles. That is until last night. I did a few launches from about 3500 rpm with esp off and ran it through 3rd gear on some side streets. The tires are actually breaking lose a little bit at launch and chirp in 2nd as well. Clutch feels strong and really engages well.

A big for southbend. For those that don't recall, i sent them brand new Audi OEM clutch disk and pressure plate along with my flywheel and asked them to upgrade to handle ~500hp (supercharger anyone?). They replaced the material on the clutch disc with their feramic material.. Seems to work great, very satisfied customer at this point.

Do you have any sort of chatter?

Can you give a more specific description of what you call "chatter"?

most aftermarket or upgraded clutches have exactly what he is describing...it sounds like a "chatter" like a tap, tap. When I used to have my G35 Coupe, it had it bad for the first few thousand miles and then went away. It's a bit annoying, but you get used to it.

Well about the first 300 miles I had a little bit of that type of chatter when I let off the clutch at mid to low rpm (1000 rpm or so). That seemed to disappear after about 600 miles.

I just got my Southbend clutch installed too. The same set-up as fishburritos.

I've only put a couple hundred miles on it so far but it's fantastic.

So you bought brand new cluthes from Audi, sent them to southbend to take em apart and replace with the better material. Why not just go straight to them, southbend? They a re a very reputable company, their parts gotta be the same as Audi. Seems like you spent extra money that could of gone other places. Was there a specific reason for this, just curious..???

Southbend currently isn't able to source parts for the B6 S4. Their previous supplier no longer carries the parts. Southbend actually recommended buying the OEM parts and shipping to them.

I sent them my flywheel and they took all the specs. They will be offering an aftermarket single mass flywheel for our cars in the future. I'm sure they will get their own clutch parts for our cars again in the future.

Got ya.Thanks for the info. I bet that single mass is going to be alot cheaper then the duals and a bit lighter.Wonder if it will retain stock smoothness,if you wanna call it that.lol
