Hi !

I run a stage 3- and have no problem yet ...
Running a perfect 18lbs of boost to the redline ...

My friend got also S4 with only a chip but my question is ...
Is it normal that he is also boosting at 18lbs ???

Is there something wrong about his car by running too much boost or is it mine that running too low boost for a stage 3- ?

Your 18lbs is not the same as his 18lbs, in a way. You have more volume in your K04s than his K03s thus you're pushing more air than him.

Normal ? I remember when I was Stage 1 I was running 14 lbs ?!
No MBC around here ...

Yea...18lbs coming out of K04s is more air than 18lbs coming out of K03s.

Its like you blowing through a straw and having your breath go 5mph, and then having a giant blow through a huge pipe and his air going out at 5mph. More air = more gas = faster...lol.

since your run stage 3-, you can only boost 18PSI since the injector duty cycle is probably near 100 or over 100 % as is, so you are running near the limit on the edge or leaning out your motor. when i was 3- with vast it was a custom tune but i was running 17 psi as that was close enough to 100 for me.... a normal k03 chip should spike around 17-19 depending on tune and taper to 13-15 depending on tune as well.

are you running a 5 bar or crushed 4.9 bar fpr? if its awe which it probably is then you probably are already

Im not sure of the exact numbers but lets say for reference the K03 pushed 1000CFM at 18 PSI...the K04 since its a larger turbo working at the same pressure (18PSI) could be pushing 1500CFM.... of course these are really rough numbers lol and im just trying to explain it in easy terms...

Back a few years ago Giac and APR were tuning the K03's to boost around 17-18 psi.

It seams now stage 1 tunes are only boosting to 14psi or so. Probably because of better turbo life and not stressing them out more then they already are.

I know my tune (usa inmotion from ebay) is set to boost only to 14 psi or so.

Im just going by posts I've seen so dont quote me on any of this.

Thanks ! Now I understand ! :) So to resume, 18lbs it's 18lbs but 18lbs from K03 its' not 18lbs from K04 :)

OP..

the video you posted is deff. pushing the K03s to their extreme limits. You should have that car checked for boost leaks as it seems that it hits 18PSI or so then comes down the fluctuates back up. if the car seems solid it could also be an N75 issue which is the electronic boost regulating valve in our cars.... I just replaced mine and it helped my overboosting issue..... A spike isnt usually what kills/hurts the turbos its what they are sustaining to redline; in the case of the video you posted that guy is deff pushing his K03s to the lmiits, he should fix it ASAP or get a MBC and run it in standalone and set it to like 14-15 PSI

That video really didnt show anything besides that the car being cold. Take a look at the oil temp gauge.

It's normal for a GIAC chip to be boosting about 17-19. Yeah it is more pressure on the turbos, but it's not anything out of the ordinary.

My car boosts at 17psi right now... However I'll rarely boost that much and when I do, I make sure my car/oil is warmed up.
