    Rust Proofing?

I have a 2006 Audi A4 and I was going to Rust proof it for this winter but i called Audi and they said that it could void the 12 yr rust warranty, and no rust inhibitor is recommended. What are your thoughts and has anyone out there done it? I don't have the warranty book (It's on order) so i don't actually know how the 12 yr rust warranty is worded. I've been told that a lot of those body and rust warranties are covered 100% for like 5years then it's a steep slope downhill on the percentage they actually cover.

    Thanks for the advice!

    Re: Rust Proofing?

I know that they dont cover rust, they cover perforation caused by rust. So it means that your car could looks like shit and they will not cover it until it makes holes!!! A year ago I went to the dealership with my car that has a rusted spot and they told me they do nothing until it's not a hole!! So I had to fix it by myself... I thougt to sandblast the spot until it was perforated and let it rust again and then return to the dealership but I did'nt!!!

Thanks for the heads up! That is the most ridiculous thing, I knew there was a loophole on Audi's side!

    Re: Rust Proofing?

Am actually thinking to do it for my car for the first time this winter. I think its definitely worth it, some places are specialized in doing so.

    Re: Rust Proofing?

Yeah there is a place here that has been doing it since the late 70's, they charge $80 cash. He uses a non drip product that is always moving to cover any spots that may be uncovered by road debris flying up. He also encourages you to watch, while he sprays the car. When i went in to look he had a Corvette and a Mercedes that was getting done. Its a pretty sketchy place though LOL.

I read the warranty on the 12 year rust coverage and "davidlizard" is correct they only cover BODY perforations. They says to me any body rust from the inside out. Any stone chips or scratches from the outside that causes rust would be completely on the owner. Or am i understanding that incorrectly?

    Re: Rust Proofing?

I just finished reading the Krown website and talking to a local dealer and for $40 ($109.95 + tax) they do a rust proofing that doesn't void warranties. They also seem very knowledgeable and remind you yearly to get it done. They also give you their own warranty. Give it a look

    Cheers,

    Re: Rust Proofing?

Krown have a good reputation, I heard they are really good. I dont think they have any dealers in Montreal though.

I can't say yes for sure but I think so! In the Krown website (In the FAQ's section) they did a test using Electronic Rust Control system which is what a lot of sea vessels would use in salt water. They hooked a piece of steel up to the electronic device and another was coated with Krown. They then sprayed both with a salt water solution. The Krown Killed (see the pics)! You basically live with salt water moisture in the air so i would say this would definitely help you. Find a dealer off the website and ask. Call a few to make sure you get as true an opinion as you can.
