Unless you already have a buffing wheel, 2 different pads a buffing compound and a polish and about half a day I would have it detailed it's worth it

There are alot of things you need to know, how deep the scratch is, can you catch it with a finger nail? how thin your Clear is etc etc

    Re: removing/fixing scratches...

Depending where you are and how much they charge for this in your area, fully detailing it, waxing, cleaning it while removing the scratches should run you anywhere from $200 to $300. I am thinking to do that, but I will let the winter pass and do it in the spring so it looks nice the summer. Cleaning out the snow will definitely put some scratches on it this coming winter.

    Re: removing/fixing scratches...

Several years ago I was thinking about leasing a previously owned BMW 740il that was just returned from lease and appeared to me to have a fair amount of scratches on it. I was assured by the salesman that their detail guy could get them out and we'd never see them. Since I had a good history with the guy I went along with it. I was truly amazed at the quality of the workmanship. The car was a dark green and could have shown all the white marks from the wax and compound but it was beautiful. On the other hand I've had "detail" jobs done that amounted to not much more than a wax job. The right operator can do a great job.

    Good luck.

    ^nice avatar.

and if you can't/don't know how to do the buffing/polishing yourself... don't try. you can just make things even worse if you aren't careful. it's best to be shown by someone who's done it before (a lot) and is good at it before you give your hand at it.

getting your car detailed is expensive but worth it if the guy/girl is willing to let you stay and watch the process (you're getting a great looking car back AND learning for next time)
